The newest hatchback from Skoda, the Scala, is expected to be presented in full sometime next month, if not sooner. And even if the model will probably look a lot like the Vision RS concept it is based on, getting new official details about it paint a better picture of what to expect.
After pretty much spilling all the beans when it comes to the car’s dimensions, powertrains and features, Skoda decided this week to give us a look at the car’s interior. And what we see is a simple, almost utilitarian design, but at the same time one of the modern age.

Standing out the most on the center console is the infotainment system display, 9.2 inches in size and positioned high up. It is framed by a design line Skoda says it is meant to echo the contours of the bonnet.

"Below the display, there is also an ergonomic wrist rest for the operation of a touchscreen," says Skoda. This feature is not visible in the photo released, and it's also hard to imagine how and why a wrist rest could be positioned under the display.

As for the materials used in creating the interior of the Scala, Skoda only says the instrument panel and door trims are in soft-foam. For the seats, the only detail released is that customers could opt for microfiber fabric.

Other than that, the Scala would offer exterior dimensions smaller than in a sedan, but an interior similar in size.

The hatchback provides the same knee room (73 mm) as the Octavia, slightly less elbow room and a bit more headroom. At the back, the largest trunk in the segment will allow customers to store 467 liters of stuff (1,410 liters with the rear seats folded down).

Engine wise, the model will come with all turbocharged engine choices: three gasoline (1.0-liter 95 ps, 1.0-liter 115 ps, and 1.5-liter 150 ps) and one diesel, 1.6-liter 115 ps.

Apart from the least powerful gasoline engine, which will only be offered with a manual 5-speed gearbox, all the others will come with the choice between 6-speed manual or 7-speed automatic.
