He received three Primetime Emmy Award nominations, winning Outstanding Lead Actor in a Miniseries or a Movie for his Sherlock Holmes role. If there’s one thing Benedict Cumberbatch can clearly act that is a mystery breaker. This must be the reason the Chinese carmaker has chosen him to promote their in-house-designed MG GS, a small SUV that targets the newly developed wealthy Chinese middle class.
The Chinese fellows over at Shanghai Automotive Industry Corporation (SAIC) are going full gear with their plans to conquer the market in the communist country, and the new small SUV stands as proof of their intentions. After enjoying a record-breaking year that saw the company lead UK car industry growth in 2014, MG is now hinting at the market all automakers are chasing after.

And what better way to connect the two worlds, if not by asking for the help of an entertainment icon renown in both countries. In the video below, fans will see Cumberbatch do what he does best: investigating. The mud, the drops of water and the vehicle’s appearance itself are enough to convince Sherlock to move further with the discovery. So he takes the natural step, driving the car to figure out the missing parts.

The peak of it all finds the 38-year-old British star stumbling upon the woman who is probably the missing piece of the enigma. “I could do this all day,” he tells her, which obviously hints at driving the car.

Could you drive the new GS all day? Is it comfortable, is it suiting the 21st century off-road driver, which never truly drives outside of the crowded city? We’ll answer these questions only after we had the chance to drive it.
