2015 MG6 Fastback Isn’t All That New

You know how MG nowadays is selling that rather bland MG3 supermini and the badge-engineered Roewe 550 known as the MG6? In this situation, anyone can tell that the once great Morris Garages won’t make a quintessentially British car ever again.

I won’t blame parent company SAIC Motor for this turn of events. After all, the MG brand has been saved from oblivion thanks to the Chinese company’s help. But there’s a detail I can’t get my head around - the “exciting new” MG6, LOL.

In the 2015 MG6 fastback’s case, “new” should become a synonym for “facelift” in automotive slang. Furthermore, a struggling automaker with only two products in its range thought that it was a good idea to start the product’s press release with “embargoed until.” Now that's “exciting new”! You know, irony is just honesty with the volume cranked up, LOL.

The irony and stupidity of it all goes even further though. I’m quoting this from the manufacturer’s UK website: “The new MG6 really is an MG to shout about. We’ve boosted the amount of standard features and enhanced the interior of this fantastic car to make it a truly unforgettable drive, all at just a fraction of the price.”

Right... I think that pretty much sums what the “exciting new” MG6 is all about. Opinions aside, I cannot complain about it in terms of value for money. In entry-level 2015 MG6 S guise, £13,995 will get you "distinctive" LED daytime running lights, heated seats, air con, an electronic parking brake and a 1.9L turbo diesel mill paired to a six-speed manual transmission.

If you need more amenities such as DAB radio, Bluetooth connectivity or even parking sensors, you’ll find those on the mid-range TS and top-of-the-range TL models. But is it sensible to spend almost £18,000 for an equipped MG6 fastback? Think about depreciation in a year’s time, then try to answer the question posed beforehand...
