Car collectors are a peculiar breed. They’re suckers for rare, famous, or well-built machines and would spare no expense once they find the object that makes them tick. Sadly, in most cases, they only purchase cars with the intention of selling them again for a profit.
The 1956 Ford F-100 we have here never exchanged hands, as its odometer shows just 1 mile since completion. Even so, someone is asking $159,900 for it right from the start. For reference, that’s roughly the price other people pay for a brand new Porsche Taycan, or an Acura NSX, or a Mercedes-AMG GT R.
Then again, none of the other cars are all-American – this F-100 was originally designed and built here, spent its life on American roads, and was eventually pumped up by Americans with American parts – so that must be worth something.
The truck is what we’ve become accustomed to seeing this December as part of our Celebration Month coverage – there’s the very in-your-face red paint, an oak bed out back, 17-inch aluminum wheels supporting the body, and a side exhaust for effect, among others. The interior is cold, with different shades of gray use all around.
Nothing spectacular can be found under the hood, either. There, in a very clean bay, sits a Ford Cleveland engine 351 cubic inches (5.7 liters) in displacement, linked to a 3-speed automatic transmission.
The only thing we found to be different is the shaved approach taken. Unlike most other custom F-100s, this one comes with no door handles and mirrors, making for a very smooth look - worthy of any car show, as its sellers say.
Is all of the above worth all that cash? We'll let you be the judge, but consider that for far less, namely $149,900, you could get your hands on a show-stopping, stunning Ford F-1 packing a 547-ci (9.0-liter) V8 engine rated at 878 horsepower.
