Having technical skills opens up a whole new world of possibilities when it comes to building a tiny home on wheels. Take the rig I'm discussing today as an example – its interior was completely transformed to become a cozy and practical mobile home.
Meet Alexandria, the owner and builder of this tiny home on wheels. She's no stranger to mobile living – she began this journey in a camper van, then moved into a skoolie, and now she chose this truck camper as her humble abode.

Specifically, what we have here is a 1994 Bigfoot C6.11 truck camper sitting on a 2006 Toyota Tundra. The vehicle sports a 4.7-liter V8 engine outputting 271 hp and 313 lb-ft. (424 Nm) of torque – Alexandria chose it not only because of its power but also for its reliability.

The truck camper was only produced in two years: 1994 and 1995. Alexandria purchased it rotten, so she had to put in a lot of work to repair it. Regarding the budget, we don't know how much Alexandria paid for the box, but we do know that the total cost of the camper ended up being $35,000 (€32,306).

As usual, I'll start the tour from the outside. The camper box is made of fiberglass and boasts double-pane windows on both sides- Alexandria installed them herself. Furthermore, on the passenger side, you'll find a large ARB awning measuring 6 x 8 feet (183 x 244 centimeters). Another notable element is a ladder leading to the roof, located beside the entrance.

That's it for the exterior – even though the truck camper looks a bit old on the outside, things couldn't be different for the interior.

To enter, you'll have to pull out a small staircase at the rear and open the door. You'll be greeted by a beautiful and warm wood interior Alexandria built herself. By the way, it offers 50 square feet (4.6 square meters) of room – it's not much, but Alexandria managed to fit all the essentials for mobile living inside.

A large chunk of space inside the camper is taken up by the kitchen, located on the driver's side. It features a deep sink, three overhead cabinets, a two-burner Dometic stive, and multiple drawers and cabinets underneath the countertop. The kitchen offers enough counter space for prepping meals, and you can also take in the views while cooking via a large window in front.

The water inside the rig is provided by a 16-gallon (61-liter) freshwater tank connected to a water pump, and it ends up inside a 5-gallon (20-liter) greywater canister in the cabinet underneath the sink.

On the opposite side, you'll find the seating area. It consists of a decently sized couch and a swivel table, as well as another window mirroring the one in the kitchen. What's more, just by the entrance, Alexandria fitted a Dickinson Newport heater – it's a bit overkill for this compact space. She runs it only for a few minutes at a time, and it significantly heats up the interior.

Walk deeper inside, and you'll find yourself between two floor-to-ceiling units. On the driver's side, the unit integrates a 4.8-cubic-foot (136-liter) Dometic fridge and an overhead cabinet housing the camper's electrical system. Its highlights are a 2,000 W Renogy inverter, a solar charge controller connected to 450 W solar panels on the roof, a DC-DC charger allowing the system to charge from the vehicle's alternator, and a 200 Ah battery located underneath the fridge. Moreover, the other floor-to-ceiling unit houses a sizeable closet and a toiletry cabinet.

And finally, the part of the camper located above the driver's cabin is occupied by the bedroom. It's quite straightforward, featuring a full-size bed, two long windows, a skylight, and a storage spot beside the bed.

You might think there's not a lot of storage space inside this rig. I'd say there are a decent number of storage spots. However, one advantage of a truck camper is that you can use your truck's rear seats to house more clothes and personal items – and that's what Alexandria did.

One amenity that's missing, which I'm sure some of you couldn't live without, is a bathroom. In a camper this small, it's tough to find a spot to devise one. Even though Alexandria didn't share any info about that, I'm sure she uses public ones and probably has a gym membership to shower. Since she has a freshwater tank on board, I also expected to see an outdoor shower – she probably just forgot to mention it.

All in all, Alexandria did a fantastic job with this truck camper renovation. It was a lot of work and wasn't that cheap either, but it turned out looking very good. Moreover, it's practical and can go off the grid, albeit not for long. Pair that with the truck's off-road capabilities, and you get an amazing tiny home on wheels.
