When you have a car that aims to reinvent the notion of luxury, you’d better get the finest men and women on the job. As part of the promo campaign for the 2021 S-Class, Mercedes-Benz has released a new short video with just the right guy for the job.
That would be tennis ace Roger Federer. He’s been with Mercedes-Benz since 2008 and, together with Formula One champion Lewis Hamilton, he’s one of the highest-profile athletes of the moment. As such, he’s a perfect fit for the S-Class.

This is the latest in a series of videos, following those with Hamilton and Grammy-winning singer Alicia Keys released last December. You will find all three at the bottom of the page.

The idea is the same for all of them: you have a public figure/celebrity that leads a very busy, hectic and stress-inducing life and yet they still find a way to find peace, relax, and stay connected with their loved ones, all the while being able to evade the pesky paparazzi and autograph hunters. That’s because, you guessed it, they all drive the S-Class.

In Federer’s case, the faux newswoman in voiceover asks stuff like how do you make room for someone else when you live in the spotlight and how is a professional athlete able to relax when he’s constantly on the move. Footage of what is supposed to be Federer’s life fits the bill: he’s shown alone in a hotel room, autographing tennis balls by the dozens, traveling and meeting (and having to be nice to) many strangers.

This seems like an alienating and maybe even dehumanizing lifestyle, but the S-Class keeps Federer grounded, relaxed, and in contact with those that matter to him. Because that’s what the S-Class does, it “cares for what matters.”

As noted above, Federer has been with the automaker since 2008, when he signed for a China-only deal that would later be expanded worldwide. The latest renewal on his contract came in 2018 and brings him a reported $5 million a year – more than enough to buy plenty of S-Classes to feel relaxed.
