Produced from 1999 to 2009, the S2k is one of the coolest Hondas of that era for a number of reasons. Yes, it looks nice, you can drop the top for wind-in-your-hair cruising, and it’s gifted with rear-wheel-drive for sideways thrills. What sets the S2000 apart from the likes of the Mazda MX-5 and Subaru BRZ, however, is the 2.0-liter engine that redlines at 8,800 rpm and cuts fuel at 9,000 revolutions.
AP1 is how the first incarnation is called, the one with the F20C mentioned in the opening paragraph. Subsequent models transitioned to a 2.2-liter that’s good for 8,000 and 8,000 revs, but nevertheless, a screaming soundtrack is ensured.

We’re not going to talk about any ol’ S2000 today but a special edition from the 2008 model year – the CR or Club Racer. Introduced in April 2007 at the New York Auto Show, the lighter and track-focused variant boasts stiffer suspension tuning, a lower ratio for the steering rack, less restrictive exhaust system, wider rear tires, a body kit that includes a wind-tunnel tested rear wing, and two headrest fairings.

Chassis number JHMAP21298S002212 is a time capsule through and through, showing no signs of wear and only 1,300 miles on the odometer. Finished in Rio Yellow Pearl, the car is joined by a clean report from Carfax, a removable hard top in black, a limited-slip differential, the owner’s manual, and the window stickers.

Offered in Houston, the S2k CR further boasts air conditioning and a radio although it’s not exactly a comfortable cruiser because of the suspension’s setup. “Fewer than 700 Club Racers were produced for the U.S. market, and just 140 were finished in Rio Yellow Pearl,” highlights Bring a Trailer in the auction’s online listing.

The F22C1 hiding under the long and sleek hood has 237 horsepower to offer on full song. Torque isn’t exactly of the essence in this open-top Jack Russell on wheels at 162 pound-feet of torque, more so because the 2.2-liter engine is meant to be revved like nobody’s business in order to extract every bit of performance.

With three days left to go, the current bid stands at a mind-boggling $65,500. By comparison, the 2008 model year originally retailed at $36,300.
