Rolex is not the only luxury watchmaker that wanted to be part of the 100th 24 Hours of Le Mans anniversary by launching a special edition chronograph. Richard Mille also pays tribute to the toughest endurance race in the world, marking the centenary with a limited-edition flyback chronograph.
But while Rolex's special timepiece was dedicated to this year's winners of the prestigious 24 Hours of Le Mans race, Richard Mille has created a watch that honors not only the momentous milestone but also the Le Mans Classic, the biennial vintage sports car event that is hosted on the same racetrack as the legendary endurance-focused sports car race, at Circuit de la Sarthe in north-west France. This year's edition will be the 11th Le Mans classic event and will run from June 29 to July 2.

RM's celebratory creation is a limited edition iteration of the already deeply impressive RM 72-01 Flyback Chronograph and is aptly named the RM 72-01 Le Mans Classic. The luxury Swiss watchmaker has been a partner of the Le Mans Classic ever since its inception in 2002 and has shown its commitment to the event by making a special iteration of its timepiece for every edition since 2008.

Richard Mille has gained a reputation as a rule-breaker in watchmaking with its exquisite models, and the RM 72-01 LMC is as magnificent as previous iterations. It features the event's signature white and green color scheme and is limited to 150 units.

Besides the white and green Quartz TPT case, the chronograph boasts matching dial accents and a matching rubber strap, as well as other details that show it was designed as a tribute to the sporting event. For instance, the number 16 on the hour counter is highlighted in red, which is a nod to the traditional start time of the race. Moreover, a Le Mans logo with a checkered flag can be observed on the watch's titanium dial as a symbol of victory.

The tonneau-shaped case of the flyback chronograph measures 38.40 mm x 47.34 mm x 11.68 mm. Inside this case, RM integrated the CRMC-1 caliber, its first flyback chronograph movement that can be seen through the timepiece's transparent sapphire crystal caseback. The redesigned in-house movement is made for everyday wear and offers essential functions, such as a 24-hour chronograph and a sizable date display. Wearers will benefit from a 50-hour power reserve, regardless of whether the watch is in use or not.

The limited edition RM 72-01 Le Mans Classic flyback chronograph is available for an eye-watering $335,000 and is sure to become a coveted collector's timepiece.

The Le Mans Classic event brings together more than 800 vintage racing cars ready to tackle the track, and there is no better-suited target audience for such an expensive chronograph than gearheads who can afford the kind of vintage race cars that take part in the event.
