Renault Twizy to Retail for 5,000 Euros

After French carmaker Renault confirmed the wacky design of the Twizy Z.E. will morph into some type of production vehicle, it is now time to take a look at the price the French are getting to charge customers for it; and we must say, that price is quite appealing, especially for the segment at which the ZE is aimed: 5,000 euros.

According to Autoblog.it, Odile Desforges, one of Renault's execs, said the Twizy will come sometime in late 2011 or early 2012, wearing a youth-friendly price of 5,000 euros.

Back in November, the French manufacturer announced it will build a new electric vehicle based on the Twizy Z.E. in Valladolid, Spain, where the Modus, Grand Modus and Clio are assembled.

The Twizy was presented at last year's Frankfurt Auto Show and features a 15kW electric motor that outputs 70 Nm of torque, with performance compared to that of a 125cc motorbike reaching a top speed of 75 km/h. The range can reach 100 km on a single charge.

The Twizy measures 2.30m in length and 1.13m in width and “represents a highly practical solution to the problem of urban mobility.” Access to the rear seat is easy, as the seatback is attached to the roof of the vehicle, allowing the lower part of the seat to pivot. Moreover, the rear seat can even be adjusted to suit the passenger's height.
