Renault-Nissan's Electric Wave Enters Ankara

A day without a zero emission agreement signed by Renault-Nissan is a bit uncanny, as the alliance tries to sign Memorandums of Understanding (MoU) in every corner of the world. Today, officials of Renault-Nissan arrived in Ankara where they shook hands with Ankara authorities for the promotion of electric vehicles across the city.

The agreement was signed by Melih Gökçek, Mayor of the Ankara Metropolitan Municipality, Jacques Chauvet, Leader of Renault’s Euromed Region and Ibrahim Aybar, Managing Director of Renault MAIS.

Renault's electric vehicles will be launched in Ankara in 2011, so the French-Japanese group is looking into ways to collaborate with the municipality on building the necessary infrastructure. Authorities are planning to include 100 electric vehicles in its fleet, just after the French carmaker launches them on the Turkish market.

Back in November 2009, it has emerged that the electric version of the Fluence will be built in Bursa, Turkey, with production to begin in the first half of 2011. The car will offer its owners the possibility of choosing from three battery charge options: standard charge, rapid charge and 'QuickDrop' battery exchange. Renault will launch the Fluence EV first in Israel and Denmark, followed by other countries, from the first half of 2011.

Renault-Nissan has become some kind of guru when it comes zero emission agreements, as it signed more than 70 partnerships with countries, cities, organizations or other groups to promote and support the adoption of its green models.
