Renault-Nissan, Mexico City Sign EV Deal

Renault-Nissan continues its zero-emission mobility with a new agreement, this time signed with Mexico City for the promotion of electric transportation means. Curiously, Mexico City will thus become the first location in Latin America to receive the new Nissan Leaf, an all electric vehicle developed by the Japanese carmaker and projected to be globally launched in 2012.

“Today is a historic day for the Renault-Nissan Alliance and Mexico City,”
Carlos Tavares, President of Nissan Americas, said. “We are signing a Memorandum of Understanding in order to introduce electric vehicles in Mexico’s capital. Zero-emission leadership is a core commitment for the Renault-Nissan Alliance. We are delighted to share a common vision for a cleaner world with Mr. Ebrard’s administration.”

“Bringing the electric vehicle to the Mexico City market is a natural progression of Nissan’s leadership and heritage in Mexico,” José Muñoz, President of Nissan Mexicana, said. “Working with important partners like Mexico City is a critical step in our continued and lasting commitment to the Mexican society.”

As previously reported, Renault-Nissan signed similar partnership in numerous locations around the world, in an effort to support its global electric vehicle launch scheduled for 2012.

The alliance signed a separate agreement with the city of Barcelona a few days ago, with the same purpose of promoting electric vehicles and creating the infrastructure needed to support the expansion of green models.

“The Alliance is proud to partner with the City of Barcelona,” Manuel de la Guardia, Managing, Nissan Iberia director said in a release. “We have a long history and deep connections with this city and through the signing of the MOU we are opening a new chapter towards zero-emission mobility.”
