One of the most significant models introduced by Renault at the 2024 Geneva Motor Show was the resurrected nameplate of the Renault 5, which came as an EV-only affair.

The Renault 5 was an astounding success for the French automaker. It was produced for two generations between 1972 and 1996 before being replaced with the Clio range. And then, almost three decades later, in 2024, the curtains fell, and the new Renault 5 E-Tech appeared in front of the audience at the 2025 Geneva Motor Show. The car resembled the shapes of the small-sized vehicle that took everyone by surprise with its nimble handling and impressive fuel efficiency. With the new Renault 5 E-Tech, the French car manufacturer tried to repeat that success, but this time in a more grueling market dominated by many other B-segment EVs. Renault even created an entirely new platform for the refreshed R5.

At the front, the 2024 Renault 5 featured a flat upper area where the brand's logo took center stage. It was flanked by LED headlights shaped to resemble the original model. As a unique detail, they could "wink" to the driver when they approached the vehicle. Renault placed three horizontal slats underneath it that helped cool the electronics behind them and were lit to show the vehicle's charging status. Furthermore, the Renault 5 featured an air dam on the lower bumper that sported a horizontal, rectangular-shaped air intake flanked by a pair of squared daytime running lights.

From its profile, the five-door bodywork featured enlarged wheel arches with an angular shape that resembled those installed on the Renault 5 Turbo, a small-sized pocket rocket from the '90s. The automaker created the car with short overhangs, leading to an unusually long wheelbase for a B-segment vehicle. Furthermore, the Renault 5 sat on 18-inch alloy wheels but rode on slim, 195/55 tires that resembled the 2021 Renault 5 concept car made by the manufacturer. The tall greenhouse, relative to the car's overall height, was a promise for a spacious interior. At the back, Renault made a raked-forward tailgate that echoed the angle of the original Renault 5. As a last detail, this time dictated by efficiency, the automaker covered the narrow, tall, and high-mounted taillights with streamlined glass that optimized airflow.

Inside, customers found a two-tier dashboard. The lower side was padded like a '70s luxury vehicle. The upper side, on the other hand, was adorned by a curved display that contained a ten-inch screen for the instrument panel and a ten-inch touchscreen for the infotainment system. To prove Renault's concern for ecology, the R5's upholstery was made from 100% recycled fabric. The high-bolstered front seats resembled those installed in the Renault 5 Turbo, while the rear bench seat was profiled for two, albeit it featured three headrests.

Renault offered the R5 E-Tech with a choice of three motors ranging between 95 PS (94 hp) and 150 PS (148 hp). Customers could get the car with either a 52 kWh or a 40 kWh battery pack.
