Revealed at the 2017 Frankfurt Motor Show, the all-new Megane RS received the Trophy treatment in July 2018. Better late than never, Renault decided to publish more photographs of the most hardcore hot hatchback it produces, which starts at €44,100 with the six-speed manual transmission.
Go for the EDC twin-clutch automatic transmission, and you’re looking at €45,900. For the sake of comparison, the Honda Civic Type is priced at €40,680 in France, coming with 320 PS and 400 Nm from 2.0 liters of displacement. The Renault, on the other hand, develops 300 PS and 420 Nm from the 1.8-liter four-cylinder turbo that’s also found in the Alpine A110 mid-engine sports car.

The Megane RS Trophy comes as standard with the Cup chassis, translating to stiffer suspension and a Torsen-type mechanical limited-slip differential for the front axle. Bi-material front brake discs, 19-inch wheels, and Bridgestone performance tires are also included, along with 4CONTROL four-wheel steering and hydraulic bump stop shock absorbers.

Customers who want to unleash the full potential of the Megane RS Trophy can opt for the Recaro front seats, covered with Alcantara upholstery. Even though it’s also suited for everyday driving, the French interloper features R.S. Monitor, which is Renault for the telemetry and data acquisition system.

Formula 1 racing driver and Renault Sport ambassador Nico Hulkenberg was involved with the development process, and as you would expect from his roles within the French manufacturer’s motorsport division, the German has words of praise for the Megane RS Trophy. “It's obviously positive to have more power and better grip through the tires and to benefit from improved braking endurance,” he said. “I also enjoyed the feeling offered by the new seats: the support they provide for sports driving is excellent."

Even though it’s supremely fun to drive and trackable, the pricing of the Megane RS Trophy makes it ridiculously prohibitive for most people in the market for a hot hatchback. On the other hand, this car is the best Renault Sport has to offer for the time being.
