Renault Megane Gets 140 and 160 HP Turbo Engines With GPF

It's not just Volkswagen that's affected by the recent changes to European emissions regulations. The engine lineup that Renault gradually built for the Megane since its launch in 2015 is all but gone.

While looking through the specs on the official German market website, we've noticed the engine lineup has changed. Just check out what's available for the GT Line and know every other trim is the same.

Gone are the 100 HP and 130 HP turbo models, which were powered by a 1.2-liter four-cylinder turbo. And in their place, we have the new 1.3-liter, which is part of a partnership program with Daimler.

Two versions are available, a base 140 HP unit and a 160 HP model that's available for an extra €1,100. Both are fitted with a GPF or gasoline particulate filter, which is meant to decrease the number of harmful particles put out by the engine.

The base version develops 240 Nm of torque while the 160 HP model makes 270 Nm. It's also available with an EDC gearbox of the 7-speed variety. The 1.3-liter turbo first began being offered on the Scenic MPV and emits around 122 to 130 grams of CO2, depending on the car it's fitted. Dacia will also offer this unit, starting with the Duster and followed by the Lodgy.

From our understanding, the Megane will also receive a 115 HP, 220 Nm version of the turbo unit. Highlights are supposed to include a cylinder coating technology derived from the Nissan GT-R.

At this moment, the only diesel option available on the Megane is the 1.5 dCi with 115 HP. The 1.6 is gone for good and will be replaced by a 1.8-liter unit with 120 and 150 HP. Also, at this moment, you can't order the Megane GT, its 1.6-liter turbo having not yet been equipped with the GPF technology. We think it might get a de-tuned version of the Megane RS.
