Unfortunately for some, downsizing is now a reality at Ram Trucks, with the 2025 model year 1500 series featuring many updates but also waving goodbye to the popular Hemi V8 options from the lineup.
Back-to-back with the all-new, first-ever 2025 Ram 1500 Ramcharger that recycles the Dodge Ramcharger two-door full-size SUV's moniker for a full-size pickup truck model with "class-shattering unlimited battery-electric range," the company also took the wraps off the updated 2025 Ram 1500 series. Unlike the Ramcharger, which is a plug-in EV with a range-extender V6 feeding a generator, the rest of the Ram 1500 family is ICE-powered, as always.
However, there's a big catch – as per the rumor mill's reports – the Hemi V8 made way for the "more powerful, more fuel-efficient Hurricane" engine family comprised of the 3.0-liter Hurricane and 3.0-liter Hurricane High Output (H/O). These are called SSTs (straight-six turbo) from now on, and the brand also introduces the fresh Tungsten trim at the top of the range to "once again raise the no-compromise benchmark for upscale pickup trucks loaded with best-in-class technology."
In a nutshell, the 2025 Ram 1500 series comes with a fresh exterior and interior design, new powertrain options, and a tech-focused cabin featuring three displays. Actually, you could say there are five of them, as the "advanced Uconnect 5 system" is featured on the 12.3-inch digital instrument cluster, the new 14.5-inch center touchscreen, and the "segment-first" 10.25-inch passenger screen – but there is also a digital rearview mirror and Head-up Display (HUD).
Currently, the 2025 Ram 1500 offers a choice of three engine options. The base is the known 3.6-liter Pentastar V6 eTorque, followed by the all-new SSTs. The 3.0-liter Hurricane packs 420 horsepower and 469 lb.-ft. of torque, and the High Output version targets 540 horsepower and 521 lb.-ft. of torque. The company doesn't yet say exactly which is which, but capability features include up to 24 inches of water fording, a maximum payload of 2,300 pounds (1,043 kg), and a maximum towing capacity of 11,580 pounds (5,253 kg) – which is actually a little less than what the new Ramcharger can do!
The new 2025 Ram 1500 lineup now includes the following grades: Tradesman, Big Horn/Lone Star, Laramie, Rebel, Limited Longhorn, Limited – and also the "all-new, ultra-premium Tungsten." Another important aspect is the new high-torque rear axle for trucks with the Hurricane H/O engine. It has 2WD and 4WD, an open or limited-slip differential, and an available electronic locking rear differential. Ram 1500 axle ratios are 3.21, 3.55, or 3.92, and the five-link solid rear axle can be equipped with the "segment-exclusive" active-level, four-corner, five-mode-adjustable air suspension.
From the design standpoint, the 2025 Ram 1500 comes with new LED headlights, a more prominent grille with big 'RAM' lettering, new taillamps, a power open/close tailgate with obstacle detection in addition to the multi-function tailgate, a 2-kW on-board power inverter, and more. The Tungsten trim features an all-new power tailgate, LED taillights, an Indigo/Sea Salt interior atmosphere, and luxury stuff like "a unique crystal-effect shifter center cap" or an "ultra-premium" Klipsch Reference Premiere audio system with 23 speakers.
Available perks include the class-exclusive dual wireless phone charging function, the smartphone digital key, and more than 100 advanced safety and security features – including Hands-free Driving Assist that provides Level 2+ (L2+) automated driving capability. Produced in Sterling Heights, Michigan, the 2025 Ram 1500 will arrive at nationwide dealers during the first quarter of next year.
