Back in May, everyone and their mother around the Mopar realm thought that Stellantis would allow its Ram Trucks subordinate to debut the refreshed 2024 model year 1500 with the 'Hurricane' twin-turbo inline-six engine.
The mill, already present on the Jeep Wagoneer, is seen as the savior for the moment when the patrons decide the Hemi V8 needs to retire from the Ram range, too, not just from under the hoods of the Dodge Challenger and Charger muscle cars. However, as it turned out, it was all vaporware.
Naturally, the rumor mill reconsidered its strategy and decided the 'Hurricane' would arrive for the 2025 model year instead, after seeing the 2024 Ram 1500 lineup only brought the Rebel and TRX Lunar Editions. The latter was so beloved by the corner office head honchos they decided the 2024 Ram TRX Lunar Edition should also move across the big pond (aka the Atlantic Ocean) to Europe this autumn.
Back in America, the new special series, meanwhile, has entered the sights of owners looking to stand out in any crowd. And when you buy a 702-hp, 6.2-liter supercharged V8 full-size pickup truck and think that's not enough, it's best to seek professional counsel. In the automotive world, that doesn't mean the Looney Tunes but rather the experts from across the aftermarket realm.
Meet Hennessey Performance Engineering, that tuner slash maker of hypercar dreams from Texas that never tires of seeking the ultimate thrills. As such, just recently, they showed us stuff like their 1,000-horsepower Cadillac CT5-V Blackwing H1000 build or supercharged GMC Yukon Denali H650 in between lots of drag racing action featuring the yet-unmodified Corvette Z06 and (S650) 2024 Ford Mustang Dark Horse, which need to be broken in before jumping on the 1,000 hp horizon.
Note how the linchpin of all these shenanigans is the 1,000-horsepower term? Well, since they played with stock sports cars, modified sedans, and SUVs, a pickup truck couldn't be far away, right? Right, now, we can enjoy a brand-new 2024 Ram 1500 TRX Lunar Edition at the Pennzoil Proving Grounds as it showcases its Mammoth 1000 goodies!
The truck, dressed in the limited edition's Ceramic Grey exterior with black accents and black leather and Alcantara interior pegged with Surf Blue stitching and sprinkled with carbon fiber all over the cabin, also gets the upgrade package. And the latter isn't shabby either, as it consists of a dedicated off-road setup aside from the 1,000-hp V8, complete with more aggressive front and rear bumpers, off-road LED lights, a full suspension lift kit, plus the company's signature ten-spoke wheels shod in 37-inch off-road-focused tires.
Now, all we have to do is wait a little longer for Hennessey to find this Mammoth 1000 TRX Lunar Edition a worthy opponent for a couple of drag races!
