Throughout its millennial evolution, man has gradually developed artificial institutions to help him manage the ever-growing diversity of life. I am talking about perennial pillars of culture such as religion, clothes, tools, schools, segregation of occupations, and so on. Among these wonderful constructs of human intellect, there is one that has a special place: the car.
The automotive multiverse is filled with so many interpretations of the self-powered philosophical concept of the automobile that it would take a literal eternity to list them. Mainly because Homo Erectus never stops making new cars, but also because each one could stir a debate that would expand beyond the physical limits of this universe.
Among this science-bending chaos of pistons and horsepower (see, I included electric motorcars in this conversation), some representatives of the automobile have a special place. It’s between the boundaries of our very restrictive three-dimensional reality and high-octane Nirvana.
Luckily, the cosmos is (allegedly) expanding, so there’s enough room for all of them. If real reality isn’t enough, there’s the internet to lend a helping hand. This way, we can all gaze at the marvels of metal and mechanics from far and wide.
Thank broadband for this commodity that allows gearheads to watch a demonstration of raw power as seen by the driver of a pickup truck casually taking one Hennessey MAMMOTH 1000 'Havoc Edition' RAM TRX for a spin.
The video (watch it below) is a first-person perspective of the short adventure. This usually means a lack of ample editing and epic shots with smoking tires and front-end lifting acceleration muffles the cinematic sensations.
There is, however, a method to this apparent piston anesthesia: strap a camera on the hood, right next to the 6.2LSupercharged emblem atop the massive engine bay cover. Put another one at the other end to record the Mammoth 1000 decals with a V8 HEMI score. And finally, use the driver’s body camera as the primary video recording gadget and show what the man behind the steering wheel sees.
This type of video has a massive handicap: we can’t see the smile on the driver’s face during the full attack sessions when the 1,012-hp (1,026 PS) engine gets the “fire at will” order. Since the 37-inch tires wrapped around 20-inch wheels are out of sight, we can only imagine what the 969 lb-ft (1,314 Nm) of tarmac-warping torque can do.
The speedometer is a good indicator of how many smiles per gallon this extremely limited edition one-in-ten hyper-trucks can deliver. One could even go as far as saying the Hennessey MAMMOTH 1000 'Havoc Edition' RAM TRX is for cars what the A-10 Thunderbolt “Warthog” is for airplanes: a brute force with unstoppable power and nothing-is-impossible attitude.
Shot at the Pennzoil Proving Grounds track at Lonestar Motorsports Park near Sealy, Texas, the Point-of-View Video shows just what a driver would see when sending the abominable Mammoth 1000. Frankly, I can’t see why other motorists look in awe when a RAM 1500 TRX `Havoc Edition` goes anywhere it wants without breaking a sweat. What’s all the drama about? It’s only reality – with the Hennessey touch of adrenaline overdose and piston PTSD.
