Ram Trucks has brought back to life Dodge's Ramcharger two-door full-size SUV nameplate - this time for an all-new, first-ever full-size pickup truck that has two electric motors and a V6 onboard.
Dodge produced the large sport utility vehicle from 1974 to 1993, and it was based on the short-wheelbase variant of the Dodge D Series/Ram pickup truck chassis. There was also a Plymouth Trail Duster sibling, the brand's one and only SUV, built between 1974 and 1981. Now, exactly three decades after the Dodge Ramcharger's demise, the moniker returns for the all-new 2025 Ram 1500 Ramcharger, a model with "class-shattering unlimited battery-electric range."

As always, we must look at the fine print when such big words are involved – like unlimited BEV range. After all, Stellantis' prized Ram Trucks brand uses even more prophetic words – "ultimate" Ram 1500, "unprecedented" range, or "the industry's best combination of range, towing, and payload." So, let us see what the fuss is all about.

The 2025 Ram 1500 Ramcharger is almost like the previously introduced 2025 Ram 1500 REV, the first-ever Ram electric truck – it has 250-kW (335 hp) front and 238-kW (319 hp) rear "electric drive modules (EDMs)" powered by a liquid-cooled 92-kWh battery pack.

However, the latter is also powered by an onboard 130 kW generator hooked to a 3.6-liter V6. Now, what are those EDMs? In a nutshell, they combine the electric motor, gearbox, and inverter – and together form the basis of electric all-wheel drive capability. Oh, and the targeted range isn't so "unlimited," after all, since the automaker clearly states it aims for up to 690 miles (1,110 km). It's still impressive, though. Classic grid recharging is also available, by the way, via 400-volt DC fast charging at up to 145 kW.

Now, the rest of the targeted figures are equally mesmerizing. Ram wants the 2025 Ram 1500 Ramcharger to offer 663 hp and 615 lb.-ft. of torque, hit 60 mph (96 kph) in 4.4 seconds, and harbor a payload of up to 2,625 pounds (1,191 kg) or tow up to 14,000 pounds (6,350 kg). Additionally, just like with other electric pickup trucks (like the Chevy Silverado EV and GMC Sierra EV), no one really knows exactly when the 2025 Ram 1500 Ramcharger will be available at dealerships – the company only says that "for a limited time, (customers) can go to RamRev.com to reserve a place in line to pre-order the all-new Ram 1500 Ramcharger and Ram 1500 REV models."

The 2025 Ram 1500 Ramcharger arrives on the all-new STLA Frame (body-on-frame) platform that is "designed specifically for full-size electric vehicles featuring a body-on-frame design." It incorporates an all-new high-strength steel frame, the battery pack is tugged in the middle between the frame rails, and also features a multi-link independent rear suspension with "standard, segment-exclusive, active-level, four-corner air suspension." The latter has five modes, including off-roading and Autonomous Drive Assist System (ADAS) features like Hands-free Highway Assist (L2+), among others.
