Living in a mobile home is all about exploring the outdoors, having fun, and enjoying life. However, not all people have the luxury of not worrying about how to afford this lifestyle. What I mean is that, despite embarking on a mobile adventure, most van dwellers still do remote work. And if you work on a daily basis, you need a comfortable setup. That's one of the perks of the camper van I'm checking out today, one of the latest projects made by Mountaineer Vanworks.
Ever since the pandemic, the work dynamic across the globe has changed, at least for a significant number of industries. Employers and employees realized that working remotely could benefit both parties, which certainly was one reason why more people chose to move into tiny homes on wheels.

If you know you're going to work remotely when designing your camper van, you must ensure you have a proper setup. A comfortable chair and a table are the essentials, but you can go even further and add a monitor or any other features (which can vary depending on what you do) that make work easier.

I've previously written about Mountaineer Vanworks here on autoevolution, but that article was about an entirely different rig: the "Base Camper" off-grid toy hauler. However, the Summersville, West Virginia-based company specializes in camper vans. And, having been impressed with the toy hauler and its creative features, I knew I had to check out one of the brand's camper van builds.

What we have here is a 2023 Ram ProMaster with a 159" wheelbase and a high roof. The rig sports a gasoline engine paired with an automatic transmission. According to its maker, it gets about 13 to 18 MPG (funnily enough, it translates to 13 to 18 L/100km).

It's Mountaineer Vanworks' 13th conversion based on the ProMaster model, which prompted the company to name it "Lucky 13." Typically, Mountaineer Vanworks pre-seels their builds, but this one is currently for sale – more info about that at the end.

Many camper vans come with striking interiors, but the builders don't bother too much with the exterior, often leaving it white and dull. That's not the case with this camper van – it's finished in beautiful red paint and boasts an eye-catching custom vinyl graphic on its sides depicting mountain peaks.

You'll also notice several exterior accessories. At the front, the builders installed a 52-inch LED light bar, perfect for lighting up the road ahead. On top, you'll find a Maxxair fan, a Dometic RTX 2000 A/C, and a Fiamma roof rack holding a Fiamma awning and three 200 W solar panels. Other notable elements are two small slide-screen windows. Moreover, the rig rides on Falken Wildpeak all-terrain tires.

Pop the sliding door open, and you'll be greeted by a warm and modern interior – one of its best design touches are Acacia Cevron-style butcher block countertops and various accents that give some personality to the rig. You also get white side walls and overhead cabinetry paired with light green-ish kitchen cabinets and drawers.

Not only does the interior look good, but it integrates a bunch of features – I'll take them one by one, starting from the front. The driver's cabin boasts a decently sized headliner sheld, and the driver's and passenger's seats can be swiveled.

Part of the entrance is covered by a kitchen counter. Mountaineer Vanworks added a flip-up table, perfect for enjoying a meal or a drink outside, provided you have a chair to sit on. Straight ahead from the entrance, you'll discover the seating/office area. It comprises two benches with a table in between.

The builder made sure to make this space as comfortable for working as possible. There's a large 32-inch TV/monitor on a swivel mount, and you have a video input port and two outlets nearby for convenience. If you don't find the bench too comfortable, there's the alternative of swiveling the driver's seat and using the bench as support for your legs.

If you plan on accommodating guests overnight, you can turn the seating area into an extra bedroom by dropping the table and rearranging the cushions. However, the sleeping space will be small, measuring 5.5 feet (almost 1.7 meters). Of course, you can use it as a couch instead. Furthermore, you have large storage space underneath both benches, two overhead cabinets above, and the seating area floor also hides a pull-out drawer.

Opposite the office/seating area, you'll find the kitchen. It's pretty straightforward, featuring a Dometic fridge/freezer, an overhead microwave, a single-burner induction stove, a sink with an extendable faucet, and tiny shelves integrated into the wall meant to hold spices.

For storage, you can use three soft-close drawers and a sizeable cabinet underneath the sink. By the way, this cabinet houses the rig's control center, consisting of switches for the lights and water pump, a water heater timer switch, a gauge depicting how much water you've got left in the tank, and a switch that dumps the van's 20-gallon (76-liter) greywater tank, which is mounted underneath the vehicle.

Mountaineer Vanwors came up with a clever solution to devise a shower, one I haven't seen before in a camper van. It's a hidden shower, but instead of fitting it inside a bench, the company added a shower behind a cabinet door. The butcher block countertop underneath can be flipped up and held up by a gas strut, while a shower pan occupies the space underneath. Moreover, even though it's not shown in the presentation video, a portable dry-flush toilet will sit on top of the shower pan.

To make sure you don't splash water all around you while showering, you can attach a curtain to hooks integrated into the cabinet door. I love how the company conveniently integrated this shower, hiding it in plain sight and making it possible to use the sizeable countertop whenever the shower isn't used.

The last part of the living space is the bedroom. To make extra room, Mountaineer Vanwork decided to make it extendable – you can pull the footboard out and fold out the mattresses. When deployed, you get a massive king-size bed. However, even when it's not pulled out, the bed offers plenty of space for one shorter person to sleep from side to side.

Regarding storage, you get a total of four overhead cabinets to store clothes and other belongings, as well as a spacious shelf. Other notable elements are USB chargers and two reading lights.

No matter how good a van interior looks, at the end of the day, it's useless if you don't have proper utilities. For heating, there's a Webasto diesel heater housed behind the driver's seat. The rest of the van's utility systems are housed in the garage underneath the bed.

The garage, like in many other camper vans, provides a lot of room in the middle to store bulkier items. Its sides are occupied by utility boxes. The one on the left houses the power system, consisting of 412 Ah lithium batteries, a 3,000 W inverter, and a solar charge controller connected to the three solar panels on the roof. Moreover, the van can be charged either via the alternator, solar panels, or a shower power connection.

This van's plumbing system, on the right side of the garage, features a 30-gallon (114-liter) freshwater tank, a 2.5-gallon (9.5-liter) water heater, and an outdoor shower complete with a shower head and an attachment on one of the rear doors. Although it's not included in the package, you could definitely mount a shower curtain to enjoy some privacy.

All in all, this tiny home on wheels comes with everything you need to enjoy comfortable mobile living, especially if you work remotely. You're probably eager to hear how much of a dent this camper van will make in your bank account. It could be yours if you empty out $126,000 (€116,000) - check out its listing for more info.
