2023 Ram Promaster Camper Features a Unique Bed Design and a Cleverly Arranged Layout

If you're passionate about building tiny homes on wheels, why not create your own conversion company? That's what Jerry McCarty did, offering his expertise and services via New Jersey-based Jerry's Custom Vans. He specializes in Ram ProMaster conversion, and his newest conversion comes with a clever sleeping arrangement. Let's take a closer look.

What we have here is a brand-new 2023 Ram ProMaster 2500 Hi-Top with a gas engine, a 2WD drivetrain, and an automatic transmission. It's designed to seat and sleep two people year-round. What’s more, according to its builder, this rig gets a highway fuel efficiency of 20 MPG (almost 12 L / 100 km).

This rig is finished in a striking Granite Grey paint and comes with few exterior accessories. The first exterior you'll notice as soon as you lay eyes on the vehicle is an enormous Thule awning mounted to its side. You'll also find a step-up by the entrance.

Step inside, and you'll discover a beautifully designed space that, despite being compact, features all the essentials you need on the road. Moreover, Jerry made the rig ready for all seasons by insulating it with Thinsulate and Rockwool.

Regarding aesthetics, Jerry opted for a slatted wooden ceiling, water-proof LVP (luxury vinyl plank) flooring, white shiplap siding in the bedroom, and dark grey cabinetry paired with lighter grey walls.

The driver's cabin isn't separated from the living space. Instead, the driver's and passenger's seats can be swiveled to face the interior. What's more, there are two large storage spots in this area: a headliner shelf and a footrest compartment.

The next part of this van, located behind the driver's seat, is the bathroom. I like the design Jerry opted for, installing hexagon tiles that imitate marble. The bathroom also has two small shelves, a cassette toilet, and a Nautilus sliding door.

By the way, a 20-gallon (76-liter) freshwater tank provides all the water in this van. Then, all the water used in the sink and shower ends up in a 20-gallon gray tank, which also comes with a ball valve for easy dumping.

Even though the interior has an open layout with an instantly accessible driver's cabin, Jerry kept privacy in mind by adding magnetic covers for the front windows, as well as a curtain that blocks off all light from the cabin.

The kitchen is split into two parts, one on each side of the interior. It features decently sized butcher block countertops, a single-burner induction stove, a Dometic sliding fridge/freezer, a sink, and white tiled backsplashes. Moreover, all the cabinet and drawer doors are push-to-open, ensuring they won't open while driving.

On the driver's side of the kitchen, you'll notice a cubby and controls for the heater integrated into the wall, four spacious drawers, an overhead microwave, and a shelf.

In the cabinet underneath the sink, you'll find some extra storage space, as well as a gauge for the water tank, a shut-off for a water pump, and ball valve controls. What's more, on the wall behind the stove, you'll notice a cubby perfect for storing oils and bottles, a couple of outlets, switches for the water heater and fridge, and a monitoring system for the electrical system (more on it in a bit).

And finally, we have the "piece-de-resistance" of this camper van, the bedroom. Jerry's system maximizes the available space. Long story short, the queen-size bed can pushed, folded in half, and locked into place. When pushed, its rear part rises and acts as a backrest, so you can use it as a couch during the day.

When pushing the bed, you'll also reveal two benches underneath that face each other. What's more, there's a pull-out table integrated into the bed frame, perfect for enjoying a meal or working on your laptop. Furthermore, the passenger side bench has storage underneath, while the other houses the van's heat-exchange water heater.

Other notable elements in the bedroom are three huge overhead cabinets, a long shelf, two windows, and a ceiling A/C.

All the space underneath the bed serves as a garage, accessible from both inside and outside the rig at the rear. It provides a lot of space to store bulkier items and also holds the plumbing and electrical systems.

The plumbing system comprises a 20-gallon freshwater tank and an outdoor shower. The electrical system is housed on the right side of the garage - it features two 300 Ah lithium smart batteries (they can heat themselves in case it gets too cold), a 3,000 W Victron MultiPlus inverter/charger, a Lynx distributor, a solar charge controller connected to 400 W solar panels, a DC/DC charger that allows the system to charge while driving, and various cut-off switches, fuses, and other components.

All in all, this tiny home on wheels has many creature comforts that allow for an enjoyable mobile living experience. It's got a cozy setup, a unique and practical bed, and adequate utility systems that enable off-grid travel.
