One type of camper that balances comfort and convenience is a micro camper. Even though they're much tinier than motorhomes or camper vans, they can still fit many features that will ensure comfort throughout your travels. They're also much cheaper. Today, I'm checking out a cool DIY micro camper build made by Max, who's also known as "Dusty Odyssey."
Max built a camper van out of a Ford Transit Connect to serve as a tiny home on wheels as he traveled through North America. I've covered micro campers before, and this one implemented some unique features and designs I'm eager to share with you. Let's start with the exterior.

This tiny home on wheels can blend in with urban surroundings, making it ideal for stealth camping. There's just one detail that gives away its camper DNA: two 150 W solar panels on the roof, mounted on a custom rack.

A Maxxair fan up top might also be a giveaway. Other notable exterior elements are rainguards, a floodlight, and security cameras mounted on all four sides.

Max made some useful modifications to the driver's cabin – he added a dash camera, a tiny hook, a phone mount, and monitors for a rearview camera and another one for a battery-to-battery charger. Funnily enough, he integrated a flip-up switch like those you can find on race cars that disables the traction control.

But the single best feature, in Max's words, is a remote for the vehicle's window covers, which are electronically controlled. When fully lowered, the living space is pitch black.

Of course, when living in a camper this compact, you use every single inch to store stuff, even if that means some areas will look a bit cluttered. Max uses the spaces behind and under the driver's and passenger's seats to store tools, gear, a camp chair, and more. That's also where you'll find a diesel heater tank and pump.

By the way, the driver's cabin is separated from the living space by a dividing wall. There are, however, two pass-through spaces, which are large enough for Max to barely fit through them. A bulkhead storage spot is located right behind this wall, which holds a lot of stuff, including a satellite communicator, a flashlight, and one feature I haven't ever seen inside a camper: a boot dryer.

Open the passenger's side door, and you'll discover the van's electrical system. It features a lot of wires, a Renogy solar charge controller, a 200 AH AGM battery, a battery-to-battery charger, cut-off switches, a fridge compressor, and other components. Max stores all sorts of useful bits and bobs all around the space, but I won't go into detail regarding what because of the sheer number of items.

The control panel for the electrical system is integrated into the wall on the passenger's side door. You'll discover switches for dimmable lights, front windows, window coverings, a CO2 detector, and a display showing the feed of the exterior cameras.

There's a spacious closet above the middle of the bed where Max stores clothes. Next to it, you’ll find other cabinets and drawers for additional storage. On the opposite side, you'll notice the kitchen and entertainment areas.

Max integrated the entertainment area very cleverly. A cabinet holds his camera equipment. Under it, there's a small drawer with a built-in cooling fan where Max holds his laptop. On the left side, there's a monitor on a swivel stand, which he uses to connect his Nintendo Switch.

Next, the kitchen consists of a decently sized countertop, a small sink, a two-burner stove, and many cabinets and shelves for storage. By the way, the sink has a straightforward plumbing system consisting of a 7-gallon (26-liter) canister, a water filtration system, and a 2.5-gallon (9-liter) gray water tank.

Now, let's talk about the sleeping space. The bed is about 24 inches (61 centimeters) wide and 75 inches (190 centimeters) long and features a latex mattress topper. Underneath it, there's a large slot where you can store longer, bulkier items, such as skis.

Toward the front part of the bed, Max installed a flip-up door. When he sets the bed up for sleeping, this door remains up, but during the day, he lowers it and uses it as a backrest. Above it, you'll find the largest storage spot in this rig, the headliner compartment.

There are many other features in this van, but it didn't want to bore you with all the details, so i talked about the main ones. It's mindblowing how much stuff Max managed to fit inside – I've never seen anything like it on a camper this small. The space does look a bit cluttered, but what he gets in exchange is all the features and utilities he needs for a comfortable life on the road. The cherry on top is the funky aesthetic, which gives the rig lots of personality.
