Naturally, the smaller you go when it comes to campers, the more you'll struggle to fit all the utilities and features you need for a comfortable life on the road. But that's when creativity comes to the rescue – I've seen many builds that ingeniously made use of every single inch of available space, including the one I'll present today.
What we have here is a 2013 Ford Transit Connect XLT with two side sliding doors. According to its owner and creator, Milo Meloy, the vehicle gets about 27 - 28 MPG (10.1 - 10.5 L/100km). He also said he paid a little over $7,000 (€6,330) for the vehicle, which at that time had around 150,000 miles (241,402 km).

On the outside, this rig is quite inconspicuous– the only feature that gives away its camper DNA is the 100 W solar panel up top. It's even finished with a standard white paint, so it's suitable for stealth camping.

The camper's interior looks like a rustic, wood-filled cabin with some modern touches. The layout is divided into a kitchen, a sleeping area, and a workspace. I'll start with the kitchen.

The kitchen is located on the driver's side of the interior. It consists of a decently sized butcherblock countertop integrating a 7-inch (18-centimeter) deep sink, a knife rack, a spice rack, a waste basket, and cabinets both above and below. On the wall behind, Milo added a white tiled sticker.

Underneath the sink, there's a container serving as a grey water tank. Moreover, one of the cabinets houses a single-burner portable stove and a Coleman oven that Milo uses for cooking. However, when the weather allows, there's a much more pleasurable way to cook in this van.

Housed underneath the bench is a large drawer slide that can be extended toward the rear. It integrates a 3.3-gallon (12.5-liter) Iceco Go 12 fridge and a spacious storage compartment holding a propane canister and some cookware. Furthermore, one of the rear doors features a fold-down table for some additional counter space.

The van's workspace is located toward the front, just behind the driver's cabin. Milo installed a monitor on a swivel mount, to which he connects using his iPad and sits on a bench while working. Moreover, he added a flip-down table on the wall, where he places his keyboard. Below the monitor, you'll find some switches for the lights, some plugs, and a cargo net.

The couch can be set up in multiple ways. You can extend the front and rear parts to form a bed, occupying all the walkable areas inside the van. It offers plenty of room for Milo to sleep in, although it might be a tight fit if two people were to rest on it.

Let's discuss storage in this rig. Besides the spot I already mentioned, Milo uses a compartment above the driver's cabin, accessible from the living space, to store stuff. There's also some space left behind the driver's seat, where Milo holds a stool and a Dutch Oven cooking pot.

The garage is instantly accessible from the outside by opening the driver's side sliding door. That's where you’ll find many tools, two 5-gallon (19-liter) canisters that hold freshwater, a water pump, and various other bits and bobs. By the way, you won't notice a heater here as Milo uses a portable one, which he claims is enough to warm up the compact interior.

On the opposite side, Milo added a pop-up toilet, a portable shoe, and a foldable tent for the dog, all hanging from hooks attached to the bench frame. Here's how Milo uses the bathroom – he can set up the toilet by unfolding it and adding a bag, while the shower cabin is inflated via a foot pump, and then he uses a hose connected to the water tanks to wash himself. However, these are emergency measures, as he mostly uses public restrooms.

The bench behind the features I just mentioned houses a Yeti 1500X power station, which feeds all the electronics inside the rig. What's more, because it's portable, it can also be used outside.

And finally, we have the driver's cabin, which is separated from the rest of the living space by a sliding wall. Because Milo travels with his dog, he replaced the passenger seat with a platform, which holds the dog's bed, window covers, and a bathroom tent. Amazingly, underneath, you'll find a folding Swagtron e-bike – I bet you didn't expect to see an e-bike inside a camper this small.

Overall, this is an incredible camper conversion. Most people look at a van this small and think you can't do much with it. But Milo had a clear vision that he brought to life, one that managed to fit many useful utilities and features inside without making the space feel cluttered or suffocating.
