The personal mobility world has entered a new age of innovation with the advent of electric vehicles, with new and intriguing designs popping up on a daily basis. In this ever-evolving landscape, Berlin-based mobility startup Dolas eBike has come up with a three-wheeled cargo e-bike that looks like nothing you've ever seen before.
In an attempt to make personal mobility even more amazing and convenient, manufacturers are constantly seeking to innovate and pair their vehicles with advanced technologies. This was also the aim of Dolas eBike with the introduction of the Defender 250, a modern utility vehicle that stands out from the crowd for its distinctive appearance and functional features.

Since this unique mobility vehicle rides on three wheels, you might be tempted to label it as an e-trike, but this is more of a tandem e-bike with all three of its wheels fitted in a single track. What's more, all of them have hub motors and 4-inch fat tires, so calling it an all-wheel drive tandem bicycle would probably be more fitting.

According to its designers, the Defender 250 e-bike "surprises not only with its appearance but also with details that you won't find on other bikes." Indeed, this is the kind of machine that will have you do a double take. Built around a patented aluminum frame, the three-wheeler boasts a futuristic design with an intelligent suspension system that adapts to different terrains and riding styles and ensures all three tires are connected to the ground.

The three-part suspension system is one of the innovations integrated into this bike. It is designed to "continuously monitor and adjust the suspension to ensure optimum ride quality, comfort, and handling." For a comfortable ride, the Defender 250's 20-inch wheels are wrapped in 4-inch-wide reinforced fat tires that ensure it can effortlessly overcome obstacles on and off road Disc braking with a 203-mm rotor up front and 180-mm rotors at the middle and rear will help bring the bike to a halt.

The most striking feature of this unique bike is its three-wheeled design, with its front, middle, and rear wheels each equipped with a 48V 250W brushless hub motor, providing pedal-assist up to 25 kph (15.5 mph). The central wheel is chained to the crank, and a Shimano 8-speed gearset is also part of the package to enhance the riding experience.

Another highlight of this electric mobility vehicle is its generous 2,544-Wh LiFePO4 battery pack that resides within the trellis-like 6061 frame. The powerful battery has a handle that ensures easy removal and transportation and is said to offer an impressive range of up to 180 km (112 miles) on a single charge, meaning you can take the Defender 250 on extended weekend rides. Recharging will take between five to seven hours.

Besides its unique looks, the Defender 250 impresses through its utility factor. The e-bike only weighs 78 kg (172 pounds) but can haul up to 250 kg (550 pounds) of cargo. It features a long rail up top that can accommodate various accessories, such as a second seat, a rear rack, and baskets. So, apart from leisurely rides, you can also use it for heavy-duty cargo-carrying applications.

With its unique design, impressive range, great hauling capacity, and the potential to turn into a tandem bike, the Defender 250 is in a league of its own in the realm of micromobility. No availability details have been disclosed, but we know the three-wheeled electric bike will be priced at €4,650 (approx. $5,160), and the company will ship it only to some European countries, including the UK, the Netherlands, Sweden, Belgium, Denmark, Norway, and Switzerland.
