There are so many RVs and campers out there that it's getting more and more challenging to find a fresh take on such a vehicle. Recently, I stumbled upon a custom, off-grid camper pod designed to be multi-purpose. I knew I had to share it with you as soon as I saw it.
Meet the Base Camper off-grid toy hauler by Mountaineer Vanworks, a Summersville, West Virginia-based company specializing in building and selling premium van conversions. Using its van-crafting expertise, the company has gone to the next level by creating this custom toy hauler, which will soon be launched after undergoing testing for nine months.

I want to start by telling you the Base Camper comes with a special feature. The toy hauler is made out of two separate parts attached to each other: a 7 x 20-foot (2.1 x 6.1-meter) Sure-Trac utility trailer and a Bravo 1 camper. The cool thing about this rig is that the camper is removable, so you're able to use the trailer on its own if you wish.

Mountaineer Vanworks came up with this design to enable travelers to accommodate a standard 10-foot side-by-side wheelbase at the rear. This is a custom build, and the nice thing is that the company can fully personalize your camper depending on your needs.

For instance, it can use a smaller, single-axle trailer to attach the camper. Or, if you don't really need that much space in the back, Mountaineer Vanworks can extend the camper's body and make the interior larger. It's truly up to the customer.

Let me also tell you some specs of this rig. The trailer boasts a curb weight of 2,410 lbs. (1,093 kg), while the camper has a dry weight of 2,667 lbs. (1,210 kg). Moreover, the camper's total length is 16'3" (almost five meters), with an 81-inch (106 centimeters) exterior width and a 74-inch (188 centimeters) interior width.

The Bravo 1 camper features a Filon fiberglass wrap and aluminum edge trimming. It's also built on a 6-inch camper chassis with Reflectix insulation. You'll notice the rig is protected by aluminum diamond plate impact guards both at the front and the rear.

Before we head inside, I want to share with you the exterior features of this rig. At the front, you'll notice a small A/C and two sizeable cargo boxes, one of which houses an 8 kW diesel cabin heater. There's also a winch with a custom hook installed to the tongue of the trailer, used to pull the camper to its spot when removed.

You'll discover the water tank fill-up, a shore power charger, a shower box, Rockford Fosgate speakers, and a Fiamma 12-foot (almost 3.7 meters) manual awning on the camper's sides.

Stepping inside, you'll find a small Furrion audio system and the control center for the camper's systems on your left. You can activate the lights, plug in a USB charger, and set the temperature for the diesel heater.

When it comes to power, this camper is well-equipped to keep you nice and cozy even when you're far away from civilization. The rig is fitted with a 3,500 W inverter, a master shutoff switch, a converter charger, and an AC/DC distribution panel. What's more, a 412 Ah lithium battery bank is connected to 800 W solar panels on the roof.

The manufacturers explained that these systems are suitable for off-grid camping. They said that after two days in the shade, constantly running the A/C, and using the other utilities, the electrical system had no issues supplying power.

I didn't expect this camper to have so many sleeping spaces. There are two single beds, one at the front and one at the rear, and the lounge space can also be turned into a bed that can easily fit two people. Each single bedroom space features a USB port, a small reading light, and dimmable ambient LED lights.

Moreover, the front bedroom comes with a TV installed on an articulating mount. A cool feature is that the TV can be swiveled outside the main door so you can enjoy your favorite movie or series while outdoors.

The kitchen is dead ahead of the entrance. It features a deep sink, a butcher block top, a sizeable fridge/ freezer, an overhead microwave, and a single-burner induction stovetop. Under the countertop, you'll notice a large cabinet and three drawers. Among other stuff, the cabinet houses a 2.5-gallon (9-liter) Bosch electric water heater connected to a 7.5-gallon (28-liter) gray tank. Furthermore, the manufacturers devised two overhead cabinets for extra storage.

And lastly, we have the commune/lounge area, complete with two large benches and a spacious drop-down table. It can undoubtedly accommodate at least five adults.

Underneath one of the benches, you'll discover the 40-gallon (151-liter) freshwater tank. The other houses the camper's electrical system. Even though this camper has no bathroom area, at least you get a Laveo dry flush toilet, also integrated into a bench.

Regarding design, Mountaineer Vanworks opted for a simple and modern look, blending many black elements with a cedar wood ceiling and various other wooden furniture. Other notable interior features are a ceiling fan and two speakers. What's more, I like that the interior is well-lit during the daytime, as the three windows let plenty of light shine inside.

All in all, you'll find all the essentials and more on the Base Camper toy hauler. It looks good, it's practical, and most of all, it offers enough space on the trailer to bring your bikes, motorbike, and even a tiny UTV.

By this point, you're probably curious about how big of a dent this camper will make in your bank account. Mountaineer Vanworks doesn't offer an exact price for this rig, but they said it would be somewhere in the $45,000 to $55,000 (€42,725 to €52,219) range, including the trailer.

The best thing about this company's products and services is that it can tailor a mobile home specifically to your liking. You can even come with your own trailer, and the company will build the pod based on your specs.
