There are a few brands out there that have been in the RV and mobile living business forever. Once such team is America's Shasta, and this time around, we'll be taking an "unlisted" look into one of their newest offerings, the 2024 334FL Shimmer.
Folks, the name Shasta has been around since 1941, and these days, they're still hard at work giving Americans the sort of mobile living habitats they want and need. Well, before us lies one of this timeless brand's newest machines, the 2024 334FL, which is part of their one and only Phoenix fifth-wheel lineup.

As for why I chose to bring this massive wheeled home to light, it's because Shasta makes a big deal out of this family of fifth wheels being suitable for 1/2 and 3/4-ton trucks. Yes, everything you see in the video below won't require you to go out and buy the biggest beast you can find.

Another reason, and the main one as to why this puppy is staring you in the face, is due to its extravagant and huge, and I mean huge, interior. Heck, it's over 42 feet (12.8 m) long, 96 inches (244 cm) wide, and once you've finally picked your spot in the trailer park, you'll be able to unfurl not one, not two, not three, but five, count them, five, slide-outs with which to maximize interior sleeping space.

Heck, I even lost count of how many people can sleep in one of these. The blueprint for this floorplan reveals two tri-fold sofas, a dinette with a free-standing table, theater seating, and a king-size bed. With some sleeping bags on the floor, you might even be able to shelter your neighbors when a storm takes their tent away.

Since we're already exploring the interior of this unit, let's continue to do so, and for that, we begin our journey at the very front of this unit. It's here that we find ourselves in the middle of an entertainment lounge with a massive TV hanging on the forward wall and a fireplace underneath.

Since the two sofas are set up on two of the five slide-outs, there's plenty of floor space to make some LEGOs with the kids. The theater seats face the TV and fireplace, have cupholders, and, by the looks of things, recline to help you relax to the inner limits of your being.

As we leave the living room and head toward the rear of the unit, we'll first encounter the kitchen - because we can't call it a galley - and the dinette along the starboard wall. What I liked about this area of the 334FL was how Shasta decided to arrange the features and appliances.

For example, everything is built around the idea of an "open kitchen," meaning that there's nothing obstructing your passage around the space, and you can easily access the pantry, fridge, and cooktop and easily take the meals you complete to the dinette waiting nearby. This gives us that wide-open feeling, and we have two slide-outs to thank for that.

Further into the belly of this beast, we finally meet the bedroom, where the final slide-out is occupied by nothing other than that king-size bed I mentioned and found along the port wall. It's sitting across from yet another TV, while dressers and two wardrobes also occupy this space.

Now, last but not least, this unit's bathroom. Here is where I kind of fell in love with what I was seeing. While this section of the wheeled home doesn't include a slide-out, Shasta still managed to add an expansive L-shaped countertop with two sinks and faucets, plenty of storage above and below, a porcelain toilet, and tucked into the remaining corner, the shower stall with its skylight. Pretty dang nice, if you ask me.

All that sounds and looks amazing, but there is something I don't like about the layout; after all, nothing is perfect. Because the bathroom is at the very end of the unit, any guests you may have will have to pass through your bedroom in order to wash their hands or tend to their needs. That said, a service bathroom would have been great.

Then again, the 334FL comes across as the kind of RV that's all about you and your family, no outsiders. So it really makes sense that there's no need to hide anything. but I still wouldn't want to be awoken by anyone having to use the restroom in the middle of the night.

All that is just part of this unit's story, and a rather small one at that; units such as these are often filled to the brim with features and systems for on-road and even off-grid living. For example, the 334FL includes things like AC units, water heaters, and an electrical setup with solar panels right out of the proverbial box. Be sure to dive deeper into all that makes a 334FL, but be sure to have an hour or so on your hands; this is a big one.

The question that remains is how much is one of these babies going to run folks like you and me? Well, a specific price is rather hard to pin down, especially since Shasta doesn't mention one. This means we'll need to go through a dealership, and while looking around, I discovered these babies priced as low as $68K and fetching as high as $100K or more. So be sure to ask all the right questions and go from there.
