Tesla's chief designer Franz von Holzhausen stole the show at the Electrified Cars & Coffee meet at the Petersen Automotive Museum after arriving in a Tesla Cybertruck. Videos and pictures were shared on social media, some depicting previously-unseen features.
Tesla Cybertruck is one of the most anticipated models of the year, and it's no wonder that the prototype driven by Franz von Holzhausen attracted a lot of attention. The Cybertruck series production has not started yet, and we can assume that the vehicles spotted in the wild are pre-production vehicles or even earlier prototypes. Still, von Holzhausen was confident enough to drive his children in the cabin, which suggests this is already a production-ready truck.

Based on the Petersen Museum's announcement, Franz von Holzhausen was a special guest at the inaugural Electrified Cars & Coffee meet. He also hosted the "first EV-only Cruise-In of the Petersen," but his presence there paled compared to the Cybertruck. The truck showed mature fit and finish qualities, further confirming that this might have been a production candidate.

Since it was there, people attending the event scrutinized it thoroughly, revealing previously unknown or at least unseen details. Perhaps the most interesting was to see the power tailgate in action. We recently learned that Tesla filed a patent for a remote-controlled power tailgate, and this might be it. Still, we can't confirm the remote-controlled operation since the prototype at the Petersen Museum had buttons on the bed rails.

The same cluster also included buttons for the power tonneau cover. Upon opening, this revealed interesting details, such as the 120-volt outlets in the bed. The Cybertruck also features an underfloor cubbyhole in the bed and a charge port in the rear left fender. Instead of the Tesla logo, the charge port featured a backlit Cybertruck logo.

The cabin pictures reveal that the Cybertruck will feature ventilated seats, which we've also discovered about the refreshed Model 3. The Cybertruck Franz von Holzhausen drives also features the squarish steering wheel we've seen on previous prototypes. Nevertheless, Tesla will likely launch the truck with a round steering wheel, as seen in the Optimus Bot video released during Shareholder Meeting.

Another Cybertruck exciting feature is the rear-wheel steering, which allows it to maneuver like a compact car in tight parking spaces. Elon Musk said the Cybertruck would have a tighter turning radius than the Model Y, and a video shared after von Holzhausen's departure confirms this. The rear wheels are visibly steered, allowing the Cybertruck to almost rotate in place. This should be a handy feature for those driving in city traffic.

The Cybertruck production is expected to begin in August, with a delivery event planned at the end of the third quarter. Tesla's electric pickup amassed more than 1.5 million reservations, probably more than any other vehicle model in history. Hopefully, the production will ramp up quickly to the 50,000-unit a year Elon Musk announced.
