In a bit of anticlimactic news, Ford today announced what we already knew, that the Tourneo Custom Van which was previewed at the 2012 Geneva Motor Show is actually going forward into production.
The Geneva vehicle was actually called a pre-production concept, but very little is actually going to change when this Focus trapped in a van body comes off the line. This look will likely also be shared by Ford’s new and improved commercial vehicles, which it wants to completely overhaul by 2014.
"The bold new Tourneo Custom signals the start of a revolution in Ford’s commercial vehicle range," "It's a fantastic-looking people mover – inside and out – and offers outstanding day-to-day, real world practicality as well as being great to drive,” says Stephen Odell, chairman and CEO, Ford of Europe.
The powertrains will include a 2.2-liter Duratorq TDCi diesel in three stages of tune - 100 PS, 125 PS and 155 PS. This will be mated to a six-speed manual. On the tech side, the vehicle will get start-stop, a rear view camera with display integrated into the reversing mirror and safety aids such as Lane Keeping Alert and Driver Alert.
