We’re really not sure what Ford is doing right now - teasing a car that was originally supposed to roll of the Romanian production lines last year. But the B-Max has managed to convince us that it’s a well thought out car, ideal for the city, and so we’ll forgive it.
Today, Ford released a photo and some details about a part of the car that we already knew about: its sliding doors, and the fact that there is no door pillar. This van-like setup allows for a gaping 1.5-meter long ‘whole’ through which you could probably walk walk a baby elephant.

“Door systems like this have been a designer’s dream for many years,” said Stefan Lamm, exterior design director, Ford of Europe. “We have taken the concept from an idea on a designer’s sketch pad, to a stylish and versatile product on the showroom floor.”

“We engineered the body to keep all the benefits of the new door concept, while making the structure strong, stiff and light,” said Darren Palmer, Product Development Quality Director, Ford of Europe. “Creating a strong, stable body is great for handling. The B-MAX is just as stiff as the latest Fiesta, and will be just as fun to drive too.”

He also loves local car culture from all over the world, so don't be surprised to see him getting excited about weird Japanese imports, low-rider VWs out of Germany, replicas from Russia or LS swaps down in Florida.
