Nowadays, Ford’s performance divisions form both parts of the ocean act as one, but this decision was taken last year. Before that, each go-fast division of the carmaker was absolutely independent and we are now here to focus on the US one, the Special Vehicle Team (SVT), which is has just turned 20.
The SVT started out in life with the 1993 SVT Cobra you see in the adjacent image and ever since has been relentlessly seeking to find new ways of making Blue Oval-badged vehicles go faster.
Fast-forward to 2012 and we find a SVT range that includes the Shelby GT500 and the F-150 SVT Raptor, which means that we have a mix between a Mustang that rivals supercars in terms of performance and a truck that’s almost ready for rally stages when it exits the factory gate.
