Ford Focus: 1.0-liter 3-Cylinder EcoBoost Replaces 1.6-liter Engine in Europe

Ford has recently made a new step towards spreading its downsized Ecoboost engines, with the carmaker introducing a new 1.0-liter Ecoboost unit for the Focus range in Europe. The 1.0-liter, three-cylinder, turbocharged unit is offered in two power levels and replaces the 1.6-liter, naturally-aspirated, four-cylinder engine.
The first produces 100 hp and returns an efficiency of 58.9 UK mpg (4.8 liters per 100km or 49 US mpg ), while emitting 109g CO2 per km. As for the second one, the delivers 125 hp and 170 Nm (125 lb-ft) (this climbs to 200 Nm during Overboost) between 1,400 and 4,500 rpm, with an efficiency of 56.5 UK mpg (5 liters per 100 km or 47 US mpg ) and emits 114 g of CO2 per km. We have to mention that the values are offered for the five-door version of the Focus.

The powerplant ,which was delivered by British Ford engineers, will also be offered in the B-Max, C-Max and Grand C-Max later in the year.

"This is the third addition to our acclaimed EcoBoost engine family. Joining the 1.6-litre and 2.0-litre EcoBoost engines which span 150PS to 240PS, this 1.0-litre EcoBoost signals a new era of downsized, super frugal engines for the sub-130PS segment," said Graham Hoare, Ford's European executive powertrain director.

The new unit is set to hit the European market next month - the UK pricing sits at GBP13,995 (EUR16,757 at the current exchange rates), which makes it GBP250 (EUR300) more expensive than the 125 hp 1.6-liter unit.
