Remember when the Pagani Zonda was a dominant figure in the world of hypercars? Fortunately, the Italian exotic has remained in production, with San Cesario sul Panaro constantly coming up with fresh one-offs. However, while the Huayra is definitely a masterpiece, it doesn't seem to have the same impact, so what could the carmaker do to reach new heights?
The Huayra doesn't seem to reach the same cult status as the Zonda due to two main reasons. The first revolves around its turbocharged V12, while the second involves the competiton - from production supercars to aftermarket developments, the machines that may rival the Huayra in one form or another have simply become fiercer than in the days of the Zonda, while their number has also increased.
This brings us to the question in the intro. Well, for one thing, Horacio Pagani is working on a successor for the Huayra, which goes by the provisional name of C10. Set to use an evolution of the Mercedes-AMG twin-turbo V12 that animates the current car, the newcomer is expected to land in 2022.
The Italian automotive producer also has an EV in the works, but its plans spread past the hypercar realm.
To be more precise, Pagani is considering building an SUV, albeit with the potential high-rider plan set to be unfolded after 2025.
As you can notice in the rendering we have here (yes, those are Tesla and Porsche bits in the image), Pagani's current design language and a traditional SUV don't mix all that well.
However, given the carmaker;s go-fast expertise, it would be interesting to see a jacked-up proposal from the company so here's to hoping this will be more like the Porsche Mission E Cross Turismo than the bloated shape defining SUVs.
As for the driving experience, the high end of the market might just be a place for a high-riding machine that doen't deliver the innevitably disconnected driving experience of a traditional SUV.
