You may have seen some of the test videos around this subject. Maybe you haven’t. We never did. But once we found out about it, there was an irresistible urge to get this to your screen.
What you’re looking at is known as the Stator LE. If you did happen to know about it, congratulations, you’re up to date with the best and freshest ideas on the market. But shame on you that you didn’t share this with the rest of us. If you didn’t know about it, as we didn’t either, do check out the video below before you continue to read.
Now, this thing is a friggin beast, and just to make things clear, you can forget whatever you knew about e-scooter. Just to make things clear, Nant Mobility is the brain behind this medley of ideas and hardware.
People, we’re not sure you understand how big and powerful this hulk is, so let's have a look together. Starting with the wheelbase, here we find a 50.8 in. (129cm) wheelbase, with most of that length being footboard. It looks like it’s got more than enough room for you to dance on it if you want to.
However, that footboard is good for more than just dancing, the battery pack is housed in this part of the scooter. Here, we find an 18650 lithium-ion battery pack with enough juice for more than an 80-mile (128km) run. How long for a recharge once you’re out of juice, just four hours is all you’ll need.
As for what the battery powers, it’s a huge 1000W peak power motor. OK, we’re not sure if you’ve been paying attention to what our urban mobility sector, but this is a level of power rarely found on even e-MTBs. And here it’s all strapped on to a two-wheel scooter that comes in at 90lbs. (40.8kg). Now it makes sense why such a massive motor was chosen. But then again, we think it was because of speed. Surprisingly, lugging around all that weight and a rider, this badass reaches speeds upwards of 30mph (48kph). Oh, and it will maintain that speed for a full one hour.
Imagine for a second how your life would be knowing that you’re out riding each day. And doing it, you're cruising along at one hella of a top speed.
My personal opinion is that this thing really seems like the last e-scooter you’ll need. Its military grade tires and tread-design will make light work of any terrain you can think of. Except for maybe dropping off five-foot cliffs.
A couple of things we enjoyed about the design are the overall frame design and wheels. First one the list, the frame. We don’t find a traditional design to the frame, but rather an extremely basic-looking tube system. It’s anything but basic.
Have a look at the gallery to see that shot of a tube with all the controls you’ll need to safely ride the LE. I’m sorry, but that’s anything but basic. And now the wheels. Here, the team chose to give the scooter more than just styling and shaped the wheel spokes as fan blades. These fan blades are the motors heatsink that cool the component as you ride. Yeah, that’s standard alright. HA!
Sadly, or gladly, depending on how you look at it, this trinket is only available for US markets. That’s because most road regulations in other countries don’t allow for such a massive top speed on something like this. Apparently, it’s a safety issue.
Now, let’s say you’ve fallen in love and with this machine. Well, you better have a big pile of spare change, as the Launch Edition LE comes in at a whopping $3,995. Oh, and this is limited to just 500. Sooo, Christmas?
