We're smack down in the middle of summer, and as such most of us involved with the automotive industry have other things on our minds than to think about corporate and product revamps. But someone, somewhere, is so excited at the prospects of what summer's end will bring that they just can't keep their composure.
That someone is German carmaker Opel. Last week, the company got excited and introduced to the world its new car logo, a variation of the existing Blitz design that should be featured on production cars starting next year.

Before it gets to do that, though, the Blitz will make its way onto a concept car, the first vehicle to wear it. Not only that, but this concept will influence all Opel cars to come, and the carmaker got excited over that as well.

As a result, at a time when most other car companies are contemplating silence, needed to prepare the fall onslaught of premieres, the Germans announced something called the Opel Experimental.

We're talking about a concept car which will be revealed in the flesh for the first time during one of the fall's most important mobility shows, the IAA Mobility, taking place in September in Munich.

Not much about the vehicle is known at the time in terms of capabilities and technologies, but we are told more info will be revealed in the coming weeks, probably in small doses to keep people's interest up.

As per the carmaker's CEO, Florian Huettl, the Experimental is named so on purpose, as it will not be just another concept, the kind that surfaces, impresses, and then disappears from sight.

No, this one will not only influence a carline, but will "give a clear vision for the brand. It shows where our brand is heading in the coming years – and will influence all our next generation production vehicles," the executive claims.

The new concept will take one step further the design cues first seen on the GT X Experimental. The electric SUV concept was shown for the first time back in 2018, and some of the lines and details it previewed can already be seen on road cars.

We have no idea what the new concept will look like, as Opel only released a teaser showing the name of the machine (the gallery shows 2018's GT X Experimental). The carmaker revealed that the new Blitz logo will be positioned, just like with current models, in the middle of the front end, but also on interior design elements.

We'll keep an eye out for what else Opel has to say about this model in the near future, and we'll ruin your vacation with updates as soon as we learn more.
