Online Communities React to Help Pensioner Recover His Stolen 2-Mile '60s Honda Super Cub

A very rare (for its mileage and state) 1960's Honda C100, also known as the Super Cub was recently stolen in the Blackburn area, north of Manchester, UK. While stolen motorcycles are, unfortunately, a common thing in the UK, this particular one comes with a very interesting story.

The bike belongs to a pensioner named Terry O'Brian and is one of his most cherished belongings. After the bike disappeared, his daughter, Angela Wesley-Dicken, went on to write a post on Facebook, attaching a photo of the moped and asking for help. As she stated that only 18 of her 200-and-some friends helped in her quest to retrieve the bike by sharing the photo, things went crazy.

As she mentioned that the 1960's Super Cub had only two miles (3.2 km) on the clock and was never ridden, the interest in this machine skyrocketed. Any Cubs with so little miles on them are a most valuable collector's items, and this makes Terry's machine a very hot bike.

More than 120,000 people shared the story

However, the thieves' moment of joy after seizing Terry's bike might be a short-lived one, and the already hot Super Cub has just become hotter. More than 120,000 people shared Angela's post and photo on various social media networks.

With such exposure, we can believe that the Super Cub will be easy to recognize when the thieves will try to sell it. They will most likely ditch the license plate that reads "TOB123B" and might even try to put some miles on it such as to deceive a potential buyer, but again, we can hope nobody will fall for it.

We saw multiple security-focused campaigns take place in the UK, trying to curb the motorcycle theft. Many of them have also got the Police involved, from generic advice to discounts for chain locks and so on.

So far, one of the most advanced technologies meant to deter bike thieves remains the Datatag-SMART system, and if you click the link, you'll find out more about how it works. And it works!
