While plenty of cars out there still come with factory navigation systems and pre-loaded maps, many drivers prefer to stick with the likes of Google Maps and Waze to access next-gen capabilities like real-time traffic information and accurate data that’s continuously updated.
On the other hand, the number of Google Maps alternatives offering such advanced features is continuously growing, and TomTom’s products are just the living proof in this regard.
TomTom has developed advanced navigation solutions with Waze-like real-time traffic information and alerts. The company is working together with carmakers to offer these systems pre-loaded on their cars.
The latest to do it is Genesis, which has picked TomTom to equip its cars with maps and real-time traffic services that would also help power advanced systems like smart cruise control and advanced automated driving functions.
So, in addition to the navigation capabilities that drivers could obtain with a mobile application like Google Maps, TomTom’s integration in Genesis cars allows for more advanced tech, including new-gen automation and driving assistance systems.
For example, TomTom’s ADAS Map will be used to power the Smart Cruise Control and Highway Driving Assist II on Genesis cars, with the company promising “high quality information on road gradient, lanes, curvature, and speed limits.”
Genesis says the new integration of TomTom services in its cars will launch in Europe starting this year, with two models to come pre-loaded with the mapping technology, namely the Genesis G80 and GV80.
But when it comes to navigation, new Genesis G80 and GV80 buyers can very well stick with any app they want, including the likes of Google Maps and Waze. The G80, for example, comes with a 12-inch heads-up display and a 12.3-inch 3D digital cluster while also offering a 14.5-inch infotainment screen that allows you to run navigation apps both on Android Auto and CarPlay (support for both of them is offered on the 2021 lineup).
