Honda was late at the EV party, but is trying to make up for the lost time. The Japanese carmaker will debut an electric series at CES next year but is preparing to ditch its first EV, the Honda e, due to disastrous sales figures.
Honda is planning to launch 30 electric models by 2030 and reach a sales volume of 2 million vehicles. Considering that right now, it only sells the Honda e compact car and is working on the Prologue, the target might be a bit far-fetched. But taking it one step at a time should work.

The Japanese carmaker will unveil a new zero-emission series, which will be showcased at the Honda booth in the North Hall of the Convention Center in Las Vegas, from January 9.

The company will also present several technologies that are designed to show the transformation it is currently going through. Honda is planning to roll out a 100 percent zero-emission lineup in America by 2040. The lineup will include battery electric cars as well as fuel-cell electric cars.

To promote the upcoming series, Honda released a teaser image, which reportedly shows an electric concept car that should debut at CES in January. If that is a front end, it looks like it sits very low to the ground and is quite upright, sloping up at a very steep angle into what might be a windshield.

Before the concept car turns into a production model, Honda has two EVs in its gobal lineup. It all started with the Honda e back in 2020, which is currently selling in Japan and Europe. The five-door hatchback comes with either 134 horsepower (136 PS) or 151 horsepower (154 PS) in a rear-wheel drive setup. Honda claims it can hit 100 kph (62 mph) from a standstill in 8.3 seconds.

A small 35.5-kWh lithium-ion battery pack offers a range of only 140 miles (220 kilometers). Honda was planning to sell around 10,000 units per year in Europe but there is still a long way to those figures. The range and price discouraged potential buyers enchanted by the retro styling of the model. Last week, a report from Elective showed that the Honda e would be discontinued at the end of its life cycle.

Honda unveiled the Prologue SUV in 2023. The model is underpinned by the architecture jointly designed with General Motors, which integrates the newly developed Ultium battery technology. It is the same platform that the Chevrolet Equinox SUV rides on and is equipped with an 85-kWh battery pack. The car drives as far as 300 miles (by EPA standards) before it needs to be plugged in again. The Prologue slot above the CR-V in terms of proportions and pricing.
