You'll be excused if you're not up to date with Europe's ever-expanding compact crossover lineup, as there are literally tons of models available from almost every major player. Peugeot, for instance, which is part of Stellantis, is prepping a new one, which will act as the replacement to the seven-year-old second generation 3008.
Several mules were spotted last year wearing the Citroen C5 Aircross' body, and a few months after the road-testing phase began, we laid eyes on the first prototype of the car. One of the biggest updates is the coupe-like approach, featuring an inclined rear hatch, which will be the most notable thing to set it apart from the boxier 5008. Several design traits were borrowed from the 508, so the all-new 3008 should be one sexy proposal in the segment.

The interior has gracefully opened up to the camera courtesy of the lion brand. Peugeot has dropped several images of the cockpit revealing the rather minimalist dashboard panel with the 21-inch free-standing curved screen that mixes the infotainment system and digital instrument cluster. Drivers will still have to look at the latter over the steering wheel and not through it, as Peugeot has become a fan of this design. Touch-sensitive controls will allow access to the HVAC system, music, settings, and others, it'll get an extra touchscreen on the center console instead of the old car's aircraft-styled switches.

A larger overall footprint is expected, and with the clever packaging, it should offer more legroom for those sitting at the rear. This move would also put more distance between the 3008 and the smaller 2008. Power-wise, we expect it to feature a 1.2-liter gasoline engine with mild-hybrid tech. It's still too early to speak about a possible plug-in hybrid derivative, but it could happen. This would be an appealing proposal to customers looking to commute daily on zero emissions without the anxiety range of the e-3008, aka the battery-electric model.

On a similar note, however, the zero-emission variant of the next-gen 3008 family will be more than suitable for weekend getaways, as it is rumored to have a range of up to 435 miles or 700 km. As usual, the autonomy will vary depending on the outside temperature and driving style, so the range mentioned above will probably be achievable in perfect conditions and with a light foot over the throttle. Both are understood to be based on the new STLA Medium architecture, which will replace the old EMP2 construction.

The all-new Peugeot 3008 compact crossover will likely be unveiled before the end of the year or in early 2024, launching on the right side of the pond shortly after. Would you want Stellantis to bring it to North America?
