Peugeot's ultra-popular second-gen 208 has just stepped into the mid-cycle refresh realm with a comprehensive facelift covering the visuals and the equipment.
Replacing the iteration that entered production in 2019, the 2023 Peugeot 208 sports an entirely new face with claw-designed LED DRLs in the bumper. This feature is standard across the range, and opting for the GT will get you an even bigger DRL signature that extends into the LED headlamps. A new light bar is part of the novelties, and so are the 16- and 17-inch alloys and lettering at both ends. Two colors were added to the palette that comprises seven hues, and these are the Agueda Yellow and Selenium Grey.

Moving to the cockpit, the facelifted 208 has a 10-inch infotainment system, no matter which trim level customers get, with wireless smartphone integration. A digital gauge cluster of the same size joins it on the Allure and GT behind the new steering wheel, and these grades also get three USB-C sockets and a USB-A, a new wireless charging pad that boasts quicker charging times, and enhanced cameras at both ends. Manual models sport a new gearshift knob, and the fresh upholstery mixing black Alcantara with green stitching round off the makeover.

In terms of power, the 2023 e-208, aka the battery-electric version of the subcompact hatchback, comes with a 51 kWh battery pack, accompanied by an 8-year/160,000-km (99,419-mile) warranty, which powers a 156 ps (154 hp/115 kW) motor. Peugeot targets a WLTP range of 400 km (249 miles) on a full charge, stating that rejuicing the battery from 20 to 80 percent takes under 25 minutes at a 100 kW connection, 4 hours and 40 minutes at 7.4 kW, and 11 hours and 10 minutes at 3.2 kW. The car is offered with two onboard chargers, a 7.4 kW single phase, and an optional 11 kW three-phase.

Besides the all-quiet variant, Peugeot also offers the facelifted 208 with internal combustion engines. The family comprises two new 48-volt powertrains making 100 and 136 ps (99-134 hp/74-100 kW), hooked up to an electrified dual-clutch six-speed automatic transmission. Two gasoline lumps are also included, and these are called the PureTech 75 and the PureTech 100. The 1.2-liter three-cylinder units produce 75 and 100 ps (74-99 hp/55-74 kW), respectively. The lesser variant has a five-speed manual delivering the thrust to the front wheels, and the latter gets a six-speed stick shift.

Depending on the selected trim level, the 2023 Peugeot 208 sports automatic emergency braking, adaptive cruise control, active lane departure warning, driver attention alert, road-sign recognition, and blind spot monitoring. Peugeot has yet to announce the pricing and availability of the facelifted 208, but we expect it to go on sale in Europe in the coming weeks or months.
