Mitsubishi Motors North America just issued a release in which the 2024 lineup is detailed in great detail. The big news, however, is that every single car and crossover sold in the United States for the 2024 model year is getting two years or 30,000 miles (nearly 50,000 kilometers) of complimentary limited maintenance.
What's that all about? For starters, the maintenance program covers one cabin filter replacement and three tire rotations. The big news is three oil changes and three oil filter changes. Given the Japanese automaker's target audience, these perks are certainly going to weigh a lot in the customer's purchasing decision.

No offense to Mitsubishi and its target audience, but Mitsubishi of 2023 going on 2024 isn't the automaker from 10 years ago. Previously known as the automobile division of Mitsubishi Heavy Industries, the Tokyo-based manufacturer is a shadow of its former self due to aggressive cost-cutting measures commanded by Nissan, which owns a third of Mitsubishi Motors.

That's 34 percent, whereas Mitsubishi Heavy Industries and Mitsubishi Corporation boast 11 and 9 percent. Said cost-cutting measures led to the replacement of the ASX and Colt in Europe with badge-engineered versions of the Renault Captur crossover and Clio supermini.

With Nissan calling the shots at Mitsubishi, quality and reliability have also gone down. The biggest problem, however, is the lack of an exciting car. No Lancer Evolution, no 3000GT, no Pajero 3DR, nothing!

The abysmally boring lineup of vehicles also led to poor sales, with Mitsubishi delivering 85,810 vehicles in the United States last year compared to 102,037 in 2022. For reference, Mitsu's best years in the US were 2000 (316,496), 2001 (323,706), and 2002 (345,915).

That being said, what else is new for 2024 in this part of the world? The short answer is not much. The long answer involves new trim levels, new visual garnish, and some new content. For starters, the Outlander and Outlander Plug-In Hybrid are available in something called Platinum Edition, which rocks Black Diamond paint on the body panels and silver on the roof.

Next up, the SE Black Edition and SEL Black Edition sweeten the deal with plenty of black stuff. The list includes black roof rails, black chrome window trim, a black dynamic shield, and black semi-aniline premium leather upholstery for the seats. Both the Outlander and Outlander Plug-In Hybrid can be had this way.

Moving over to the Outlander Sport, which is a terribly old crossover, the new-for-2024 Trail Edition features black hood graphics. Trail front and rear effects, black hood protector and tailgate trim, black side and fender moldings, black inner door handle protectors, all-weather floor mats, and mud flaps are included.

As highlighted earlier, the lineup is abysmally boring. And rather than rebadging the Renault Captur, the Outlander Sport for North America still features the 13-year-old underpinnings of the first-gen ASX. Over in Japan, the small crossover is known as the RVR.
