I remember being a kid and going to stores, ending up begging my mom to get me a Hot Wheels car almost every time. Today, I'm lucky enough to be able to buy my own. Lucky is what we can also consider Minecraft fans as Mattel has a special collector’s set for beloved blockheads.
If you’re a Hot Wheels fan, then you’re probably up to date with the toys Mattel creates for children of all ages. Since 1966, Elliot Handler, co-founder of Mattel, got together with an actual rocket scientist and a GM engineer to create what will ultimately become one of the go-to car toy figurines in the world.

Two years later, in 1968, the first set of Hot Wheels hit the shelves, the “Original Sweet 16.” A “Custom Camaro,” “Custom Mustang,” and even a “Custom T-Bird," were all available. Years down the line, these toy cars have taken on twists and turns that no one could have even dreamed of, except the marketing team at Mattel of course.

Their most recent collaboration with Minecraft has sparked a set of five vehicles inspired by five characters from the ever-growing game world. Because there are five vehicles in total, five characters are represented; Enderman, Zombie, Creeper, Skeleton, and Spider.

As gameplay goes, each of these characters have specific roles and traits within the game, and, depending on the level where said character is encountered, some of their abilities and powers are heightened or lessened. Each one of the five vehicles is meant to embody each respective character and their powers.

Now, Hot Wheels doesn’t make a specific mention on their website as to which vehicle belongs to what character; that may be revealed in the box. However, through a bit of deductive reasoning, I bet we can it figure out.

To represent Enderman, which are characters presented by that black body and pink and purple eyes, Matel seems to be rather clear: the black car with a pink windshield and open trunk is the one.

For Skeleton however, a rather kickass F1-like Minecraft car is provided. I don’t really dabble in Minecraft, but after seeing this beauty, I just might get into the game and find out what it’s all about. I wonder if I can design a car like this in the game, or if one already exists.

In the vehicle world, one car seems to be considered the slowest of the bunch, the station wagon. With this idea of a slow-moving vehicle, Zombie is represented by that green station wagon with purple trim fashioned to the likes of Zombie’s purple pants. But that wagon just might be a sleeper, as the hood looks like it hides one crazy-looking twin turbo.

Creeper shows up with a very cool and sharp hot-rod style figurine. A lifted rear and squared-off cab with a long hood and engine compartment are only made more awesome by the exhaust pipes coming out of the engine.

The final and largest of the five characters happens to be Spider. Hot Wheels seems to have also represented this character with a massive (in comparison to the other vehicles) eight-wheeler that also looks to be hiding some sort of unfolding mechanism at the rear. I wonder what’s inside.

Honestly, for the $19.99 (€17 at current exchange rates) this set is going for on Amazon or at your local Wal-Mart, you can spare this morning’s bagel and just go out and buy this for your kids, or for the kid in you.

If you’re a fan of cars and speed, then the Skeleton and Creeper cars might be the two vehicles that attract your attention the most. Better yet, leave a comment below with your favorite.
