It is not every day that such beasts come out to play. There aren not that many in the world. But here it is, a Mercedes-Benz G 63 AMG 6x6.
An off-roader like no other. The Mercedes-Benz G 63 AMG came before the carmaker had switched to the Mercedes-AMG designation, hence the complicated mixed-up name.

It is basically this gargantuan contraption that would not fit the narrow streets of Europe, but would roam the sand dunes like no other. It would not fit most underground parking lots, but it would tackle just about any terrain. That was what it was made of in the first place.

The extravagant off-roader features three axles, six wheels, and a ground clearance that was unimaginable until it broke cover: 18.1 inches (460 millimeters), with a fording depth of 39.4 inches (1,000 millimeters). The monster measures 231.3 inches ( 5,875 millimeters) in length, 83.1 inches (2,110 millimeters) in width, and is 87.0 inches (2,210 millimeters) tall.

9,050 pounds (4,105 kilograms). That is how much the overweight giant weighs. To pull that much weight, it got a twin-turbocharged 5.5-liter V8 with 536 horsepower, and 561 lb-ft of torque steered to all six wheels. 30% of those goes to the front wheels, 40% to the middle axle, with the rest ending up at the rear through a seven-speed AMG Speedsfhit 7G-Tronic automatic transmission, a dual-range transfer case, and a pair of driveshafts. Three switches in the center console control five electronic differentials and lock the wheels depending on necessities.

Those are enough to make it run while making the ground shake underneath in 7.8 seconds from 0 to 60 mph (97 kph) on its way to a top speed of 100 kph (161 kph).

Mercedes kept this behemoth in production for two years, between 2013 and 2015. The exact number of the examples that rolled off the assembly line at Magna Steyr, Austria, is unknown. But there were reportedly around 100 such vehicles that drove through the factory gate, with most of all ending up in the Middle East.

Where else would you find people willing to pay a fortune for the most unpractical of cars and to do some dune bashing at the same time?

That is the question that pops into our minds when we see this 2014 Mercedes-Benz G 63 AMG 6x6. It was originally ordered in Dubai, delivered in February 2021, then imported in the US in 2021, and federalized by G&K Automotive Conversion of Santa Ana, California.

There is a decal on the underside of the hood confirming that the G 63 AMG 6x6 was modified to comply with the US EPA Emission Control Regulations.

The new owner put the truck through a maintenance procedure, which involved changing fluids and repairing the sunroof and driver’s seat lumbar support.

It is finished in Design Mystic White over Design Classic Red and Black Exclusive leather upholstery, and it practically drowns in carbon fiber. There are roof-mounted LED driving lights, and the cargo bed is covered in wood panels (replaced during the current ownership). Twin dual exhaust pipes exit at the side.

The G 63 AMG rides on black 18-inch Hutchinson deadlock wheels with red accents, wrapped in 37x12.5” Pro Comp Xtreme MT2 tires. Red-painted black calipers over cross-drilled rotors at all six wheels provide the stopping power.

The model standardly comes with a central tire inflation system, because that is what you do when you take an off-roader off the road and onto the sand.

The cabin is covered in Design Classic Red and Black Exclusive leather with diamond stitching. It shows up on the seats and door panels, while there is carbon fiber on the dashboard and center console and Alcantara on the headliner. The multi-function steering wheel wears black perforated leather with contrasting red accents.

There are so many controls, buttons, and switches in there that you need a ten-class course to even come close to learning how to use them all. The switches for the tire inflation system are located in the overhead console. That is also where the twin Wikai air pressure gauges and the VDO auxiliary fuel level gauge are.

The driver and front passenger benefit from the presence of power-adjustable heated and ventilated seats. There is the old COMAND infotainment with navigation (no MBUX back then!), a Harman Kardon LOGIC7 sound system, and dual-zone automatic climate control.

The digital odometer shows only 7,000 miles, with approximately 2,000 of them being covered during the current ownership. The behemoth is for sale in Florida with “show or display” paperwork, literature from the manufacturer, service records, a clean Montana title, and a clean Carfax report. He also changed the brake fluid and performed a resetting of the tire pressure monitoring system.

The vehicle is listed on Bring a Trailer and is ready to hit a new record. With four days to go, the bid sits at $700,000. There is still plenty of time to break the $901,000 record.
