Tired of seeing drag races every day? Well, if you're into off-roaders, the humble tug-of-war can be a viable alternative. Today, we're going to look at what happens when you put the G63 up against a Porsche Cayenne and the new Bentley Bentayga Speed.
These cars have already raced when Carwow decided to put their traction to the test on some grass. A Range Rover was also involved in that action. Also, the G63 did some tugging up against the Jimny, and because the little Suzuki wasn't a match for it, three of them were tied needed.
Knowing how Mercedes makes the G-Class, everybody should know that even the performance G63 model is good at off-roading. Not many owners put its abilities to the test, but it's nice to know they're there. Carwow decided not to use the low-range gearing because it would offer an unfair advantage, but all three locking diffs were engaged.
Diffs are becoming less and less common on luxury SUVs as automakers try to reduce weight and boost performance. But the fake diffs that lock up the brakes on wheels that are spinning don't exactly do the same thing, as we can see in this video.
The G63 makes easy work of the Porsche Cayenne, which not only has worse traction, but also slightly less power from its 4-liter bi-turbo V8 (down 35 hp and 80 Nm). The big Merc weight over 2.5 tons, but that can actually be an advantage in a scenario like this.
However, it's a different story with the Bentayga. This is not only the W12 model, but also a new Speed version which produces 635 HP and 900 Nm (664 lb-ft). It's got the weight, it's got the power and it very nearly rains of the G63's parade. We don't want to tell you exactly what happens and ruin the surprise. However, we do want to draw your attention to the tow hitch situation - which SUV has one and which doesn't?
