The Australian International Motor Show which opens its doors in the first day of July is the venue of choice for all the car makers that plan on making a name for themselves on the markets of the region. And since Australians have a soft spot for pick-ups, Mazda's choice for a new entry on the market is called BT-50 Freestyle.
In words all mortals can understand, the Fresstyle is just your regular BT-50, but one that comes with door that open in opposite directions. A system first implemented by Mazda on the RX8, that has now been transplanted into the pick-up to give it more appeal for the demands of the Australian market.
The Fresstyle doors allow the user to gain a 1.4m opening in the side of the car, allowing for easy exit and entry from and into the car. Having gained so much access space, Mazda thought of changing the dimensions of the rear seats as well, adding 50 mm in length and 128 mm in height.
“Just as we were delighted to be given the privilege of hosting the global debut of the All-New BT-50 Dual Cab in Sydney last year, we are equally delighted to be hosting the global debut of the Freestyle Cab in Melbourne this year,” said Doug Dickson, Mazda Australia managing director.
“With Australia expected to be the largest market for the All-New BT-50 it’s no coincidence that we’ve been asked to host not one but two global unveilings of this important new model. It’s only appropriate that the Australian public see it first.”
The new model will go on sale in Australia later this year. Pricing information has not yet been released.
