The final part of 2018 saw Mercedes-AMG introducing a revamp for its GT supercar, along with a new range-topper, which came in the form of the GT R Pro.
The newcomer packs the same 585 horsepower output of the non-Pro GT R, but comes with multiple upgrades aimed at improving lap times. We're talking weight-saving measures, extra downforce and a more hooning-focused suspension.

Now, the Mercedes-AMG GT R Pro won't land in showrooms until next year, but the world wide web already dreams of modded incarnations of the beast.

Sure, it's a bit early for that, but we've brought along a rendering of such a contraption (helmet tip to Car Lifestyle for the image). The pixel play we have here portrays a lowered GT R Pro, with this sitting extremely close to the asphalt.

Nevertheless, aftermarket developers will undoubtedly target the Affalterbach toy and we can't wait to get our hands on the results.

Returning to the standard incarnation of the machine, we'll remind you this lapped the Nurburgring in 7:04.63. For the record, the non-Pro model needed 7:10.92 for the same task.

In fact, we've added the video of the Mercedes-AMG GT R Pro Green Hell lap time at the bottom of the page. Note that the one behind the wheel if racing driver Maro Engel.

Zoom in on the footage and you'll notice just how stable the track special is when tackling the infamous German track.

However, we have to keep in mind that the GT R Pro won't remain a range-topper until the end. For instance, the carmaker is planning at least one fiercer model.

We are, of course, referring to the Black Series incarnation of the German missile. However, with this derivative traditionally arriving towards the end of a vehicle's life cycle, we still have some waiting to do before we can enjoy the Porsche 911 GT2 RS rival.
