False alarm, ladies and gentlemen! Even though Mercedes-AMG teased the R PRO as being thirstier than the R, the output of the 4.0-liter twin-turbo V8 engine stays put. In other words, the range-topping Mercedes-AMG GT has 585 PS (577 horsepower) and 700 Nm (516 pound-feet) of torque to offer.
Designed to be more hardcore than the R, the R PRO benefits from more aggressive aerodynamic trickery, lighter components, redesigned suspension, and a track-focused appearance. The coilovers can be finely adjusted for compression and rebound through a dial on the damper. As for the carbon-fiber torsion bar up front, that one's adjustable as well.

Uniball spherical bearing for both the lower and upper wishbones, a hollow stell bar at the rear, and the carbon-fiber shear panel on the underbody are some of the other highlights, along with the carbon-ceramic braking system and AMG Performance lightweight wheels finished in titanium grey. The canards up front are there to increase stability at high speed while the air slots in the fenders reduce front-axle lift.

With racing driver Maro Engel behind the steering wheel, the 2020 Mercedes-AMG GT R PRO is much obliged to conquer the Nurburgring in 7 minutes and 4 seconds. Elsewhere in the lineup, the GT benefits from redesigned LED headlights, different tailpipe outlets and diffuser, and double-spoked forged wheels. As far as the interior is concerned, the 12.3-inch instrument cluster is the most important addition.

Complemented by the 10.25-inch infotainment screen on the center console, the GT also welcomes the AMG Performance steering wheel from the AMG GT 4-Door Coupe. Galvanized paddle shifters and Touch Control buttons are also included, along with AMG Dynamics.

“The AMG what now?” According to the Affalterbach-based automaker, AMG Dynamics is a driving mode that “expands the functions of ESP to exact distribution of power distribution at the rear axles and steering characteristics.” More to the point, an electronic nanny is there to keep the rear axle in check by reacting according to the speed, steering angle, and yaw rate of the vehicle.
