Yeah, we know, the world of kei cars has the ability to surprise every time. And if that new Daihatsu Copen coupe-cabrio is not your thing when it comes to kei, check out this Autozam AZ-1 for sale.
The funky-named brand belongs to Mazda, which wanted diversify its offers in the late 1980s. Thus, Autozam was born, being specialized in sporty kei cars, most of them being rebadged Suzukis. The AZ-1 is basically a Suzuki Cara, but we don’t really care, because this is a vehicle that will turn heads in the US, no matter what.
Why you ask? Well, first of all this thing is pretty rare even in Japan, not to mention the fact that what you see here for sale is actually the Mazdaspeed version, which comes fitted with a bodykit that basically transforms it into a baby Ferrari F40... with gullwing doors. What else could you want?
The whole car weighs only 720 kg (1,587 lb) and is powered by a turbocharged 657 cc gasoline engine making 64 hp at 6,500 rpm and 85 Nm (63 lb-ft) at 4,000 rpm.
Being the Mazdaspeed version, it also has sport tuned springs, strut bars front and rear, a mechanical limited slip differential, performance air filter, special alloy wheels as well as a stainless steel and ceramic muffler.
The car is located in Chiba, Japan and costs $13,657 (€10,357) to which you’ll probably have to add shipping costs. A bit too much, but who’s gonna be hated when rolling through the neighborhood?
