South Korean automaker Kia has revealed preliminary specs for the US market 2014 Soul EV, which is scheduled to arrive in North American dealerships starting next year.
Wearing the same boxy design as the second-generation Kia Soul, the electric vehicle will feature an electric motor that’s powered by a 27 kWh lithium-ion polymer battery pack and delivers 109 horsepower and 210 pound-feet of torque. The unit will enable the vehicle to accelerate from 0 to 62 mph in “less than 12 seconds” and reach a top speed “in the region of 90 mph”.
Kia says the Soul EV “targets a range of more than 120 miles”, while charge times should be of around five hours using a standard 240-volt outlet or 25 minutes on a 100-kW output “fast” charger. Judging by the numbers above, the 2014 Soul EV will outgun the Nissan Leaf, which is available with 107 HP, 187 lb-ft and a 75-mile range.
What we don’t know is the vehicle’s pricing and availability, but we’re hoping Kia will spill the beans soon as the electric car will make its debut at the Los Angeles Auto Show later this month. Meanwhile, you can have a look at the official press release below for more details.
