It’s the company’s passenger car flagship for the British market, so the £42,595 (around $57,840 at the current exchange rates) Stinger is not exactly out of the ordinary. Kia’s fastback sports sedan has been discreetly enhanced last year, and now it’s making its way across the European region – so it naturally crossed the English Channel to showcase its evolved looks and tech goodies.
The facelift performed on the Stinger is not necessarily groundbreaking, though for America the company did announce one major addition – a new four-cylinder 2.5-liter Smartstream T-GDI (turbocharged gasoline direct injection) that’s capable of churning out 300 hp (304 PS) and 422 Nm (311 lb ft) of twist.
Unfortunately, the UK market isn’t getting the new mill that’s positioned between the base 255 PS (252 hp) 2.0-liter and the top twin-turbo V6 T-GDi, because the new Smartstream is exclusively offered on the home market, along with the U.S. and Mexico.
That’s not necessarily bad news for British fans because the single configuration available for the 2021 Stinger does boast just about every possible goodie. The 2021 Stinger GT S costs £42,595 and comes packing the 3.3-liter mill along with its 361 hp and 376 lb-ft (510 Nm) of torque, which is enough for a sprint to 60 mph (96 kph) in 4.7 seconds and a maximum speed of 167 mph (269 kph).
Just one powertrain combination is available, with power from the twin-turbocharged direct-injection gas engine delivered to the rear wheels via the company’s eight-speed automatic transmission.
It’s also dressed up to impress by Kia, complete with all the enhancements brought to the range by the facelift, a new Electric Blue exterior paint option, fresh style for the 19-inch alloy wheels, and lots of safety and connectivity enhancements.
Chief among the upgrades are the advanced driver assistance systems such as Lane Following Assist (LFA) or Highway Driving Assist (HDA), while inside there’s a seven-inch driver display for the instrument cluster, Kia’s 10.25-inch touchscreen with the UVO interface, connected services, as well as Android Auto and Apple CarPlay compatibility.
