Jeep debuts the 4xe hybrid technology in the Avenger lineup. It is the first time Jeep's baby SUV gets all-wheel drive, which turns it into one of the few in the segment with all wheels active, thus confirming the brand's off-roading DNA.
The all-wheel drive sounds like the perfect match when it comes to Jeep models, no matter the segment they slot in. A B-segment model, the Avenger 4xe confirms Jeep's capability on rough terrain, unlike many others in the same category on the European market, which are not normally available with all-wheel drive.

Eric Laforge, Head of Jeep Europe, says that the Avenger 4xe marks a turning point for the automaker, now joining the all-wheel drive portfolio of the brand.

The powertrain now integrates the four-cylinder engine, which generates 136 metric horsepower (134 horsepower), operating alongside two electric motors. The e-motors bring along 29 metric horsepower (28 horsepower), which engage both axles and provide 1,900 Newton meters (1,401 pound-feet) of torque to the rear axle.

The power looping technology keeps the all-wheel drive system in operation regardless of the battery charging status, which means that the rear wheels still work when the battery is empty. The vehicle is equipped with a 48-volt Mild Hybrid system, which enables it to drive in full electric mode at low speeds thanks to the electric motor integrated into the six-speed automatic e-DCS6 dual-clutch transmission.

The Avenger is also available with a manual and with front-wheel drive. The B-segment model has a variant for any preference. It is available as a BEV, the carmaker's first, which was ordered by over 40,000 customers in Europe after its official debut last summer. It now also sells with an electrified 48V Mild-Hybrid system and an ICE, options that few carmakers offer.

The entry-level version comes with the 1.2-liter petrol engine with 100 metric horsepower (99 horsepower). Meanwhile, the electric Avenger is powered by an electric motor capable of delivering 156 metric horsepower (154 horsepower). A lithium-ion battery pack with a capacity of 54 kWh stores enough energy to make the vehicle drive as far as 399 kilometers (348 miles), according to the WLTP testing cycle, before it needs to be plugged in again.

The Avenger 4xe was previewed by the rugged Avenger 4x4 concept at the Paris Motor Show in 2022, indicating that there would be several different design elements, with the changes focusing on the front bumper, a raised ground clearance, and beefed tires. It turns out that the real deal carries over design cues from the concept from two years ago.

Customers will be able to order a Jeep Avenger 4xe before the end of 2024. That is probably when we will get the performance figures of the all-wheel drive Avenger. Deliveries should start sometime in the first quarter of 2025.
