In less than three months from now, we will all be celebrating New Year's Eve. And it can be difficult for some of us to think that we're closer to the year 2040 than we are to the year 2000. Despite all that, Mattel has already started introducing its 2024 Mainline series. With 15 new cases coming up, we're bound to see a lot of new castings and recolors.
I showed you a first glimpse of Case A for 2024 a little under one month ago, and there were quite a few exciting items inside. The highlight of this first set of 72 cars was the Ford Escort RS2000 Super Treasure Hunt with its simple Spectraflame Green paint job and Real Riders 8-spoke wheels. The second STH collectible for 2024 has arrived, and it's a tricked-out version of the '18 Chevrolet Camaro SS.

Second Super Treasure Hunt for 2024

Brendon Vetuskey designed this casting, first appearing in Muscle Mania in 2018. The following year, Mattel included the Camaro in the iD series. By 2022, this casting had moved to the NFT Garage line-up, but only 1,200 units ever left the factory floor. That's why some people have listed theirs for as much as $450 on eBay. Over half a decade since its Mainline debut, the '18 Camaro SS has reached Super Treasure Hunt status with Case B for 2024.

It features a Spectraflame Black paint job with orange stripes and 5-spoke Real Riders wheels. It might not be as exciting as the first STH of the year, but it's still a pretty good release. Still, judging by some of the spy photos circulating online, some incredible machines are on their way for 2024. And the following three STH models will all be replicas of European vehicles.

Information on Regular Treasure Hunts of the future is scarce, but the new one is finally out in the open. I remember buying the third iteration of the Hot Wheels Ain't Fare casting last year, as owning a tiny yellow bus felt fantastic. The 2024 Case B TH is the sixth version of the Ryu Asada-designed casting and is not entirely undesirable. I've seen worse TH models, but it doesn't stand up to the '47 Chevy Fleetline from Case A.

But let's dive deeper into Case B and see what else is coming soon. Limited Grip is an unlicensed casting, but you can instantly tell it's a replica of an actual vehicle. It is the third iteration of the tricked-out pickup truck and the first one not to feature the Black Widow exhaust livery. It's also interesting to note that Mattel opted for a different set of wheels instead of their usual strategy of using the same design for several iterations in a row.

Mainline Highlights

Seeing a new design on the '82 Nissan Skyline R30 feels good, as the 2023 model looked like a repeat model altogether. The late Ryu Asada designed this casting, too, and it first hit the market in the 2018 Factory Fresh series. The purple, black, and gold color combo is fitting for a Japanese machine, and it's also the most complex livery we've seen on this item so far. But it doesn't come close to being as exciting as the new yellow Porsche 911 Carrera RS 2.7.

This is the third variation of the Fraser Campbell-designed casting, which might be the best yet. And if you love yellow Porsches as much as I do, you'll be happy to know that Mattel's got a Premium 911 Turbo arriving soon. But more on that in a future story. If you live in Europe or North America, you might have yet to hear about the Proton Saga. However, the Malaysian automobile has sold almost two million units across Asia since its debut in 1985.

Mattel has a factory in Malaysia, so there's your connection. Online communities have been going bonkers upon hearing the news, so we'll see at least one or two more variations of the Saga in 2024. The 1956 Corvette has received the Hot Wheels treatment, as flames are now part of its design. Only time will tell if this will convince people to buy it. But I'm certainly a big fan of the new livery for the El Segundo Coupe.

The first two iterations were boring, with their dual-tone graphics. But things are looking much better now, and the new wheel design works better with the fantasy casting than the Wire Spoke ones. I just realized I don't own a single Hot Wheels motorcycle, whereas I have nine bigger bikes from other manufacturers on display. But the new color variation for the Honda CB750 Cafe looks pretty tempting.

Legends Tour Winner Has Arrived

If Mattel came up with a replica of my 1999 Suzuki SV650S, I would snatch that up instantly! Tesla fans will probably feel the same about the fourth iteration of the Model Y, which now features a nice Deep Blue Metallic finish. I wonder if this casting will make it to the Premium series soon. The Nissan Patrol Custom is back with a new design and is still a hillclimb monster. The Mountain Rescue livery is complete with "snow-covered" wheels, and I might pick this one up for diversity. 11 months have passed since I wrote about the Texas Toot.

This is one of the most insane Kei Trucks out there, and it won the 2022 Hot Wheels Legends Tour. The 1992 Autozam Scrum is a small vehicle, so seeing it on Monster Truck wheels and hearing the big Chevy V8 is surprising. Craig Meaux and Manson Cheung worked together on designing this tiny replica, and you can't help but be excited about future Hot Wheels Legends Tour winners. The Mazda Autozam is one of the highlights in Case B, but there's still more to uncover here. The '72 Stingray Convertible is back, and this white one is the third version of the casting that first arrived in stores with the 2023 Mainline series.

And if you still wanted more Corvettes, Mattel's got you covered. I talked about the '76 Greenwood 'Vette in a previous story, and it's one of my favorite Hot Wheels castings. The new iteration features a Metalflake Plum finish, with white and orange stripes to make it pop. I hope Mattel will develop a future design that will look as good as the 2012 Road Racer model, which was spectacular in red, white, and blue. I was a huge Honda fan in Junior High before I even dared to dream about an RX-7.

I would still love to own a Civic SI, and seeing the new gold one in Case B brought up many memories. I still need to add the Ultra Hots version to my collection, and another idea struck me simultaneously. Wouldn't it be great if Mattel started creating replicas of hero cars from the Need for Speed series of video games? The latest iteration of the Civic SI is the 29th overall since the casting debuted in 2001. And it has been over a decade since we last saw one with Real Riders wheels on it! That doesn't seem right, does it now? There have been some weird casting/livery combos lately; think of the Fast and Furious R34 GT-R and Toyota Supra.

Seeing an HKS design on the '19 Ford Ranger Raptor isn't as provocative, but it still makes for a rather strange sight. This is the kind of livery you would have expected to see on a Japanese machine, but most collectors won't mind adding this to their collection anyway. But it will be in lower demand than the Volkswagen T2 Pickup. You can even use this to haul a small Hot Wheels casting if you'd like to, making for a budget Team Transport combo while you're at it.

Jun Imai designed this casting for its 2017 Art Cars debut, and this is the 11th iteration so far. Mattel skipped this one in 2023, and it last came out in the FAO Schwarz Gold Multipack, alongside other vehicles such as the 1963 Aston Martin DB5 and the '71 Porsche 911. Case B also contains a recolor of the Audi RS e-tron GT, which reminds me of a verse on Rick Ross's 2006 hit "Hustlin."

It feels surprising to see the Ford F-150 Lightning Custom back so soon, but I can't decide whether it looks better with the Ryu Asada 6-spoke wheels or the Aerodisc ones. That's about it for the 2024 Hot Wheels Mainline Case B, not counting the slightly outdated Humvee casting, which has been around since 1992.
